NavInfo's future strategy discussed by Cheng Peng: holding to Internet of Vehicles + developing automatic drive2015-6-25
At the end of March of this year, the new general manager Cheng Peng took over NavInfo; as one of important entrepreneurs of the company, Cheng Peng once led company business of various departments, such as technology, product, management and sales. As the leader of traditional geological information manufacturer and the object received by the capital market, NavInfo is believed to attract more attentions regarding its future layout after being taken over by Cheng Peng.
"By holding to Internet of Vehicles, it will be OK."
For more than ten years since its foundation, NavInfo has always been focusing on auto industry and its Internet of Vehicles business has been its main source of company achievements. It is inevitable to cooperate with mapbar, which is a traditional manufacturer with A-level mapping qualification for navigation digital map and mainly focuses on enterprises and governments regarding data service. On Internet of Vehicles field or consumption level, both lack direct correlation with mass consumption and NavInfo"s competitiveness on C-end is lower than opponents. While mapbar"s value mainly reflects on C-end, which has the complete product line from mobile software to hardware and development capacity from cloud to application, thus being able to offset NavInfo"s insufficient.
After purchasing mapbar, NavInfo integrates all Internet of Vehicles businesses into mapbar and establishes Internet of Vehicles center to welcome Internet of Vehicles users by such new face of mapbar.Cheng Peng stated, "we integrate original businesses related to Internet of Vehicles into mapbar which is not operate by itself, but incorporates some businesses, including our vehicle operating system and application software. This will be the main part of our future Internet of Vehicles business, and we will face and welcome automobile factory, back loading and final users by this company."I can establish this strategy because there is larger market opportunity, we can make better experience for users in the car for about 2 hours. By this way, we can realize more commercialization by attracting users." The Internet of Vehicles is a new concept in certain stage for auto industry development, in this way, NavInfo will focus on auto industry in the first ten years and turn to Internet of Vehicles in future N years.
Developing automatic drive
There are more new application scenarios for digital map developed in such mobile internet age, such as travel 020 service, regional hot map, passenger flow volume for indoor map statistics and intelligent parking, under these new applications, NavInfo has always been searching for innovation to go with the tide of development.
Cheng Peng described, "NavInfo has been developing digital map supporting automatic drive, including high-precision map and sensor map, all these maps will be essential components for automatic drive in the future." "Now they have not been launched, because they focus on front loading, but will appear in the market in future several years. It is not so easy to build such ecological system by making better technology, collecting better high-precision map and establishing updating system for us."
Undoubtedly, intelligentization will be future direction of auto development, however, automatic drive technology now is subject to laws and regulations, confirmation of responsibility, insurance claims and lag of supporting, so that it cannot be promoted within a short time; for common people, ensuring safety is the most important and intelligentization is not so important.
In the capital market, NavInfo is under suspension and preparing to purchase Here map to enter into international market. In early years, NavInfo began to study high-precision map, sensor map and unmanned map. It is predicted that more surprises will be presented after NavInfo steps into the international market.
