Huge gas field discovered in northeast Iran - Mr Fakour

MNA cited Mr Mehdi Fakour MD of Central Oilfields Company as saying that a huge natural gas field has been discovered in northeastern Iran.

Mr Fakour said that “Details of the discovery of new natural gas reserves in the region will be announced by the National Iranian Oil Company.”

He said that the exploratory study of the newly discovered gas field will continue until September 2013.

According to BP’s annual statistics, Iran’s gas production in 2011 was 153.3 billion cubic meters, while the consumption volume was 151.8 billion cubic meters in 2011, indicating a 1.5 billion cubic meters negative balance.

In December, he said that Iran’s proven crude oil and natural gas reserves are worth around USD 37 trillion.

He added that the reserves include 100 billion barrels of crude oil, 94 billion barrels of condensates, and 207 billion barrels equivalent of natural gas.

Iran’s daily gas output is projected to hit 1.4 billion cubic meters by 2015.

Cold weather in Europe has caused this season’s record-high spot prices for gas, crossing the $400 mark. But even this does not make stable but higher long-term contract prices more attractive to European customers.
Over the weekend extreme weather has swept across Europe from the UK to Spain, claiming lives and causing flight cancelations and power outages. The freezing temperatures have forced Europe to consume more gas prompting the spot price to reach $406 per 1000 cubic meter. Gas at Britain’s National Balancing Point traded at $398.7 last week which was 8.5% higher than in first week of January.
However, Russia’s Gazprom, which in 2011 provided 32% of total gas supplies to Europe, will not benefit much from the rise. Only 20% of Gazprom’s gas exports to the EU were spot deals, Sergey Vakhrameev, analyst at Metropol told Vedomosti daily. Long-term contracts make up the majority of Gazprom deliveries, while spot supplies are only 7% of total exports, Vakhrameev added.
The spot market is on the rise in Europe as the price is usually lower than on contract. Thus, contract clients who are loyal to Gazprom are demanding a discount. The average price for current gas delivery to Europe stands at $400 under long-term contracts tied to oil, and the discount can be as much as 21%. Gazprom neither wins nor loses if the spot price keeps changing either way, business expert Yulia Voytovich from Investcafe told RT.
“Prices in long-term contracts are fixed and have nothing to do with changing spot-prices, ” Voytovich explained.
However spot-price market may look lucrative for European consumers, who in terms of economic crisis seek cheaper suppliers than Gazprom, Yulia added.
“Spot-price deals look more affordable for European consumers because Gazprom sets its prices at rather high level and is not ready to compromise it in given economic situation in Europe,” she said.

Iran ends fuel subsidies for 1800cc and above cars

Tehran Times reported that Iran has ended supplies of subsidized gasoline for cars with engines of 1,800cc and bigger.

Iranians with cars pay IRR 4,000 a liter for a monthly allowance of 60 liters and IRR 7,000 a liter for larger volumes. Such cars will be only supplied with 300 liters of gasoline per month at IRR 7,000 a liter. Previously, cars with engines as powerful as 2,000cc were included in the rationing plan.

Iranian official have said that the country has become self sufficient in gasoline production since domestic use decreased following a phase out of energy subsidies that began in December 2010. The country, which is grappling with international trade, financial and energy sanctions over its nuclear program, aims to become a major gasoline exporter.

Beste voda,

Kleine moeite natuurlijk.

Hoe denken mede posters hierover?

Iran stops oil export to EU

MNA cited Mr Alireza Nikzad Rahbar spokesman of Iranian Oil Ministry as saying that Iran has stopped oil and gas exports to EU countries in what he calls preemptive sanction. With US and EU new sanctions on Iran’s oil and gas industries to take effect soon, Iran National Oil Ministry has stopped exports of oil and gas in advance of the sanction.

According to the announcement, while export of crude oil and liquefied gas has been increased to most other countries, their crude oil and liquefied gas] export to EU 27 member states has been banned.

Mr Rahbar said that Iran has stopped oil and gas exports to EU for its hostile decisions against Iran until further notice. Despite many requests by EU countries on buying oil and gas from Iran, Iran will not sell any oil and gas to those countries.

He said that currently, Iranian crude oil production and exports are in normal conditions and that after a year of hostile oil sanctions by US and EU, oil exports have not been affected much. Instead, Iran has signed new contracts with other world oil companies to export oil and gas.

He pointed to Iran’s second place in OPEC list of oil producing countries and said that Oil Ministry has planned different scenarios to handle any oil sanctions by Western countries and will implement them when necessary.

brearking news
Israeli fighter jets targeted a military research center near Damascus early on Wednesday morning, Syrian state news agency SANA said citing army officials.
The Syrian army’s general command has issued a statement, saying an airstrike was launched by the IAF targeting a military research center in Jamraya, rural Damascus.
“Israeli fighter jets violated our air space at dawn today and carried out a direct strike on a scientific research center in charge of raising our level of resistance and self-defense,” the army statement said as cited by SANA.
The strike caused material damage to the center and a nearby building, killing two workers and wounding five others, the statement added.
Earlier there were reports in the media of an attack by Israeli jets on Wednesday morning striking a target on the Syrian-Lebanese border amid repeated violations of Lebanese airspace. It is unclear whether this is the same air raid the Syrian military is now referring to or if there were two separate assaults. Israel has not confirmed that it has launched any attack on Syrian territory.

ran's oil export highest since sanctions thanks to China
In December, Iranian crude oil exports hit their highest level since the EU imposed sanctions on the country's petrol trade last July, analysts and shipping sources said. The demand was boosted by China, the top buyer of Iranian oil, as well as India and Japan. The July sanctions, which aimed to deter Iran's disputed nuclear program, nearly halved the country's oil exports in 2012, leading to billions of dollars of lost revenue and a plunge in value in the Iranian currency. The current spike in exports has not quite reached pre-sanctions levels, but Iran is now buying tankers from China in anticipation of further growth in its oil trade.
