Na de val van de muur en het uiteenvallen van het Warschaupact sprak Poetin later over de verbroken beloften van het Westen. Hij had het over de uitbreiding voorbij de grenzen van het herenigd Duitsland.
Rusland heeft later geprotesteerd tegen de uitbreiding van de NAVO maar dit was aan dovemansoren gericht. Poetin heeft de opmars van de NAVO een halt toegeroepen in 2013.
Nadat het Warschaupact was opgeheven ging men in het Westen denken, dat Rusland geen speler meer was van betekenis. Een economie met de omvang van Italie en wat kernwapens. Sinds 2013 is de Russische beer uit zijn hol gekropen, om zijn veiligheidsbelangen te verdedigen tot verbijstering van het Westen. Zouden VS en China ook doen in hun achtertuin.

Hoorde gisteren mevr Anna Applebaum(VS) op de Belgische tv, die lezingen geeft momenteel in Europa. Ze schrijft colums voor de Washington Post en volgt de ontwikkelingen in Centraal en Oost-Europa. D66 loopt nogal met haar weg. Ze sprak ook over Rusland en de Oekraine en ik was het niet met haar eens.
Haar insteek is, dat Rusland de agressor is. Ze gaat helemaal voorbij aan de expansiedrift van de EU en de NAVO tot in de achtertuin van Poetin.
Niet vreemd dat gisteren een paar politieke partijen in Nederland waaronder D66 schreeuwden om nieuwe sancties tegen Rusland omdat Rusland een nieuwe raket heeft ontwikkeld. Deze partijen zijn stekeblind voor de aanleiding , dat Rusland in 2013 in aktie kwam op de Krim en in Oost-Oekraine.
De aanleiding was o.a dat een democratisch gekozen president ten val werd gebracht in de Oekraine.

Duitsland weigert oorlogsschepen te sturen op verzoek van chocoprins Porosjenko naar de zee van Azov en de Zwarte Zee. Ook heeft hij de NAVO verzocht schepen te sturen. De NAVO heeft hem geantwoord , dat men al present is in de Zwarte Zee(standaard). Is deze man niet gevaarlijk bezig? Ligt achter in de peilingen voor het presidentschap en probeert nu WO3 uit te lokken.

Mooie bijdragen! Gelukkig dat zowel Duitsland als de NAVO zich niet laten meeslepen. De Eerste Wereld Oorlog begon ook met een moord op een troonpretendent. We hebben net herdacht hoe ongelooflijk stupide het ene land na het andere land in 1914 in een oorlog werd betrokken, die zo gruwelijk veel ellende zou gaan veroorzaken.
Ik stel voor dat ze er Verhofstadt heen sturen en die iedere avond wat laten twitteren om af te koelen….. En wij : Gewoon kilo's zout nemen bij al die berichten.

Poroshenko stelt ook voor zware sancties tegen Rusland(gas/olie). Liefst totale blokkade. Het gas uit Rusland is goed voor 40% van de Europese behoefte en daar wil de president direct mee stoppen met de winter in aantocht.

Dan kan die Poroshenko beter met Trump gaan praten. Trum stelde eergisteren voor om die nieuwe gasleiding naar Duitsland nog eens te heroverwegen, zeg maar ronduit: Ervan af te zien. Rusland minder naar Europa en dan kunnen de Amerikanen wel leveren….. Blijft een speciale die Trump.

Als wij in Europa nu eens zouden antwoorden: Oké minder gas uit Rusland, maar dan halen we het uit Iran.....

Maar gelukkig laten we regelmatig Trump maar twitteren en wordt de Nordstream-project die West Europa van het broodnodige gas voorziet fijn doorgezet. En dan heeft Trump ons niet helemaal in zijn macht.

En Poroshenko? Gaat ie chocoladerepen uitdelen als miljoenen in Europa zitten te bibberen van de kou…..?

Op termijn zal Europa minder afhankelijk worden van Russisch gas. Men is bezig vanuit Azarbeidzjan een pijpleiding aan te leggen door Turkije naar Italie. Oplevering 2020. Azarbeidzjan beschikt over 1,2 biljoen kubieke meter gas. De bedoeling is, dat Turkije in eerste instantie 6 miljard kubieke meter gas afneemt en Europa 10 miljard. Dat laatste is net zoveel als het gebruik van Nederlandse huishoudens op jaarbasis. In 2019 wordt Nordstream 2 operationeel naar Duitsland waardoor men niet meer afhankelijk is van doorvoer door de Oekraine. Zal de chocoprins niet leuk vinden.

Naast Nordstream 2 naar Duitsland(2019), goed voor 55 miljard kubieke meter aardgas, is Rusland ook bezig met Turkisch Stream, een pijplijn door de Zwarte Zee naar Turkije. Capaciteit 31,5 miljard kubieke meter aardgas. Voor Turkse markt en de rest gaat naar Griekenland. Oplevering eind 2019. Rusland wil minder afhankelijk worden van doorvoer door de Oekraine terwijl de Oekraine inkomsten hard nodig heeft. Zwakke economie, 9% werkloosheid en staatsschuld verdubbeld sinds 2013 t.o.v BBP door de oorlog. BBP omlaag.

Germany sticks to Nord Stream 2 pipeline amid Ukraine conflict - Mr Seibert

Reuters reported that criticism of the NordStream 2 pipeline, which will allow Russia to bypass Ukraine in transporting gas to Europe, has not affected Germany's view of the project, a government spokesman in Berlin said. Earlier, Ukraine's ambassador to Germany had said the project, which Germany is committed to, should be put on hold after Russia seized three Ukrainian ships near Crimea.

Mr Steffen Seibert, German government spokesman added that it remained the case that Ukraine should still be a transit country for gas from Russia to Europe.

Nadat Porosjenko het niet voor elkaar kreeg oorlogsschepen van Duitsland de zee van Azov in te loodsen en Europa uiteraard niet de gasafname afsluit vanuit Rusland, heeft hij weer iets uitgevonden. Russische mannen van 16 tot 60 jaar mogen de Oekraine niet in zolang de staat van beleg duurt. Zijn argument is, het zou wel eens hetzelfde als met de Krim kunnen gaan. Vergezocht. Uit de duim gezogen.

’Russische ambassade is spionagecentrum’

DEN HAAG - De Russische ambassade in Den Haag was actief betrokken bij de mislukte poging in april van dit jaar om de Organisatie voor het Verbod op Chemische Wapens (OPCW) te hacken.

De tweede secretaris van de ambassade, Konstantin Bachtin, coördineerde de operatie die vier Russische spionnen uitvoerden in Den Haag. Dit meldt NRC zaterdag op gezag van bronnen. De krant noemt de ambassade „een zenuwcentrum voor spionage.”

Volgens NRC is Bachtin, die inmiddels is teruggeroepen naar Moskou, kolonel bij de Russische militaire inlichtingendienst GROe. In die hoedanigheid was hij verantwoordelijk voor spionageactiviteiten in Nederland. NRC schrijft dat de afgelopen jaren zeker zes GROe-officieren op de ambassade werkten.

De spionnen die de hack moesten uitvoeren waren eveneens door de GROe gestuurd. Het was al bekend dat een ambassademedewerker hen van Schiphol had afgehaald. Volgens NRC was dat het hoofd protocol, Anton Naoemkin.

De Nederlandse militaire inlichtingendienst MIVD verstoorde de Russische operatie. Mogelijk is de MIVD op het spoor gezet door afgeluisterde telefoongesprekken tussen Bachtin en Moskou, zo schrijft NRC.

Oekraïne droomt van een Europese toekomst, maar blijft slechts Poetins speelbal

Rusland baalt dat hij te laat was om Estland, Letland en Litouwen buiten de EU en de NAVO te houden. Dat zal hem bij Oekraïne en Georgië niet gebeuren. De EU reageert nogal tweeslachtig.

Russian gas pipeline and Ukraine crisis are separate issues - Mr Altmaier

Reuters reported that Mr Peter Altmaier, Germany's economy minister dismissed suggestions that his country's commitment to a pipeline - that will allow Russia to bypass Ukraine in pumping gas to Europe - undermines efforts to a de-escalate a crisis between the two neighbours. He said that "Those are two separate questions."

He urged Russia to release the crew of Ukrainian vessels it seized during a stand-off in the Kerch Strait.

Ukrainian ports continue to work and increase cargo handling - USPA

Ukrainian seaports as of November 26, 2018 exceeded the volume of cargo handling in the same period of 2017 by more than 760 thousand tons according to operational data. Ports on the Black and Azov Seas continue to work in regular mode. This was stated by the Head of the USPA, Raivis Veckagans, at the Infrastructure Day of the European Business Association. Since the second half of the year, Ukrainian seaports managed not only to reduce the 3% lag in transshipment volumes of the previous year figures, but also to exceed it by 0.6% or by 767 thousand tons in the end of November. According to Raivis Veckagans, this was achieved due to increased efficiency of grain transportation by rail.

The Head of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority stressed that the introduction of martial law in Ukraine did not affect the operational activities of the ports. Work on loading and unloading vessels continues on both the Black Sea and the Azov Seas.

The current situation, of course, affects the cost of goods transportation from the Ukrainian ports on the Azov Sea. “The USPA, in turn, continues to invest in the development of these ports. By the end of next year, we plan to bring the depths in the ports of Berdiansk and Mariupol to the passport depths. Another dredger will be transferred there after the repair. Also, in Mariupol, the investment project on the reconstruction of the berth No. 4 and the construction of a new grain terminal in conjunction with SE Mariupol Commercial Sea Port is continuing,- Raivis Veckagans told about the plans for the development of ports. Implementation of the project, in which the USPA has already invested more than UAH 50 million, will increase the capacity of the terminal up to 1.5 million tons per year.

Ukraine coal import up by 11pct in January-November 2018

Kyiv Post reported that Ukraine imported USD 2.7 billion worth of coal in the January-November period, an 11% increase compared to the same period of last year, according to Ukraine’s fiscal services. And incredibly, 62% of those imports USD 1.7 billion worth, came from Russia, a country that is waging war against Ukraine.

At the same time Ukraine’s largest mining company DTEK, owned by the country’s richest oligarch, Rinat Akhmetov, has accused Russia of extracting roughly 500,000 tons of coal a month from Ukraine’s Russian-occupied Donbas region, and then even more incredibly, selling it in the European Union.

Ukraine plans to use domestic coal and not Russian or American

Koz Week reported that the refusal of the Ukrainian thermal power plants from domestic coal will lead to deterioration of life of the miners and the threat of an emergency in the energy sector. The politician said that “I know that the Ukrainian government is pressing the United States. So, the us Ambassador spoke out against the priority of the Ukrainian coal. Of course, the US and Russia want us to buy coal from them. I demand that the government, despite the pressure to take care of relatives – the Ukrainian miners, not American, African, Russian.”

He recalled that the dependence on foreign anthracite has repeatedly led to state of emergency in the power sector in the period 2014-2015 PCR with the use of “rolling blackouts”.

The leader of the Radical party, said that “In the coal mines of the country has more than 78 thousand people. If our stations will not buy Ukrainian coal, we endanger not only the miners, but their families, their children.”

Ukraine arranges attraction of USD 500 million loan in China

Ukraine has arranged the attraction of a USD 500 million loan in China to build Dnistrovska hydroelectric pumped storage plant. The loan interest would not exceed 4.5% per annum, Board Chairman of Ukrgasbank Kyrylo Shevchenko has said in an interview with the Delovaya Stolitsa publication.

Mr Shevchenko answering the question about the prospects of Ukrgasbank in partnership with China said that "Unfortunately, today the volume of direct Chinese investment in Ukraine is far from desirable. There are certainly reasons for that. However, Ukraine's proximity to the EU market is already enough for a number of Chinese companies to take a decisive step and start developing their business in Ukraine.”

As reported, a memorandum of understanding on the participation of China National Electric Engineering Company in the completion of construction of Dnistrovska hydroelectric pumped storage plant was signed by Ukrhydroenergo and CNEEC in the presence of Economic Development and Trade Minister of Ukraine Stepan Kubiv. Its cost of USD 500 million was announced.

Head of the parliamentary committee for industrial policy and entrepreneurship MP Viktor Halasiuk said that the intention of state-owned company Ukrhydroenergo to place an order for turbines intended for the third stage of construction of Dnistrovska hydroelectric pumped storage power plant with CNEEC instead of Turboatom which was involved in the first two stages, is inadmissible.

Turboatom said that the enterprise is ready to supply hydroelectric turbines and equipment for units five, six and seven of this power plant. Recently the enterprise shipped the fourth turbine to the plant. He said that "The hydroelectric turbines were created under own project of Turboatom and designed and produced by Turboatom and Electrotyazhmash.”
