Enel Bags 59.2 MW in Terna’s Fast Reserve Auction in Italy

The Enel Group has been awarded 59.2 MW of capacity contracts in the tender for Italian Transmission System Operator Terna's ultra-rapid frequency regulation service, also known as Fast Reserve. Specifically, the awards relate to Italy’s central northern mainland 40 MW and central-southern mainland 19.2 MW. The awarded capacity will be supplied by the so-called Fast Reserve Units which include the possibility of combining an electrochemical storage system with electric vehicle charging infrastructures and Vehicle-to-Grid solutions. Starting in January 2023 and through December 2027, these units will provide ultra-fast response service in less than one second. The service must be available for 1,000 hours per year, in specific time slots defined by Terna.

The awarded FRUs are: Porto Tolle, 20 MW (in an area not included in the site’s current repurposing project), Alessandria, 20 MW, Torrevaldaliga Nord 2, 9.6 MW and Torrevaldaliga Nord 3, 9.6 MW.

The Fast Reserve will help improve the stability of grid frequency, in coordination with other existing services. Within the pilot projects promoted by Terna, this tender helped to facilitate the introduction of new technologies in the electricity system and, in particular, electrochemical storage units, which are key in supporting the energy transition as envisaged by Italy’s Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan.

In a highly competitive tender scenario, Enel confirms its leadership in Terna's pilot projects, having won the highest share of capacity assigned in this tender: around 24% of the total.

RWE to supply Ineos with Green Electricity

RWE Supply & Trading and Ineos have entered into a long-term Power Purchase Agreement. Under the terms of the ten-year agreement set to begin in 2021, Ineos will purchase 198 gigawatthours of green electricity per year from RWE, which will be generated by the Northwester 2 wind farm in the Belgian North Sea. The wind farm is located off the coast of Zeebrugge and is operated by the Belgian company Parkwind. The PPA represents around 25% of the electricity generated by Northwester 2. Thanks to the PPA, Ineos will reduce its carbon footprint in Belgium by 745,000 tonnes of CO2 during the term of the agreement.

Ineos is one of a series of key accounts that RWE provides with green electricity on the basis of PPAs. Deutsche Bahn, for example, purchases electricity generated from hydropower and offshore wind power and Bosch recently concluded a purchase agreement for solar power with RWE Supply & Trading.

The Northwester 2 offshore wind farm supplies the Belgian grid with green electricity from 23 turbines, each with a capacity of up to 9.5 megawatt (MW). The wind farm’s total power generation has been marketed by RWE Supply & Trading since the spring of 2020. It is the seventh wind farm in the Belgian North Sea and has a total installed capacity of 219 MW.

Nederlandse opdracht voor Vestas

(ABM FN-Dow Jones) Vestas heeft in Nederland een nieuwe opdracht binnengehaald. Dit maakte de Deense bouwer van windturbines dinsdag bekend zonder financiële details te melden.

Het gaat hierbij om de levering en installatie van 37 V162-5.6 MW turbines voor het Windplanblauw windmolenpark. Zij vervangen 46 bestaande turbines.

Opdrachtgever is SwifterwinT op Land, een samenwerkingsverband van meer dan 170 burgers en ondernemers in Nederland.

Ook werd een onderhoudscontract voor 25 jaar getekend met de opdrachtgever.

Windplanblauw moet in de toekomst meer dan 400.000 huishoudens van elektriciteit voorzien.

Italiaanse opdracht voor Vestas

(ABM FN-Dow Jones) Vestas heeft in Italië een nieuwe opdracht binnengehaald. Dit maakte de Deense bouwer van windturbines dinsdag bekend zonder financiële details te melden.

Het gaat hierbij om de levering en installatie van 5 V136-4.2 MW turbines voor het Cairo Montenotte windpark in Noord-Italië.

Opdrachtgever is Gruppo FERA.

Ook werd een onderhoudscontract voor 18 jaar getekend met de opdrachtgever.

Weer Italiaanse opdracht voor Vestas

(ABM FN-Dow Jones) Vestas heeft in Italië weer een nieuwe opdracht binnengehaald. Dit maakte de Deense bouwer van windturbines woensdag bekend zonder financiële details te melden.

Het gaat hierbij om de levering en installatie van één V136-3.45 MW turbine en veertien V136-4.2 MW turbines voor het Bella windpark.

Opdrachtgever is Ares. Daarmee werd ook een onderhoudscontract voor 20 jaar getekend.

De turbines zullen in het derde kwartaal van 2021 worden geleverd.

Dinsdag meldde Vestas al een opdracht voor levering en installatie van vijf V136-4.2 MW turbines voor het Cairo Montenotte windpark in Noord-Italië.

(ABM FN-Dow Jones) Vestas heeft in Finland een nieuwe opdracht binnengehaald. Dit maakte de Deense bouwer van windturbines donderdag bekend zonder financiële details te melden.

Het gaat hierbij om de levering en installatie van 15 V162-6.0 MW turbines voor het Murtomaki windpark.

Opdrachtgever is Ålandsbanken, een nieuwe klant voor de fabrikant. Daarmee werd ook een onderhoudscontract voor 30 jaar getekend.

De turbines zullen in het tweede kwartaal van 2023 worden geleverd.

VK gaf gisteren 31-12-2020, groen licht voor het offshore wind-project Hornsea 3 van Orsted

Met 26 maanden vertraging, wegens milieu vraagstukken, keurde de UK regering, het 3e Hornsea project goed.

Orsted zegt dat de nieuwe 'unieke' milieu compensatiemaatregelen zal aantonen, dat de industrie op 'milieu verantwoorde' wijze energie kan leveren

De Britse staatssecretaris voor Business, Energie en Industriële Strategie Alok Sharma heeft toestemming verleend voor de bouw van Orsted's 2,4 GW Hornsea 3-project in de Noordzee.

Orsted zal voor de kust van Yorkshire maximaal 231 turbines (GE Haliade –X 14 MW) installeren met rotoren met een diameter tot 265 meter en een tiphoogte van 325 meter. Het park moet operationeel zijn in 2024.

De GE Haliade –X 12 MW in Rotterdam heeft een rotor diameter van 220 M en een hoogte van 260 M, welke momenteel de grootste windmolen in de wereld is.

Hornsea 1, van Orsted, was operationeel in 06- 2020 (4 jaar na de vergunning, totaal 1.2 GW met SG van 7 MW)
Hornsea 2, eveneens van Orsted, is in uitvoering en operationeel in 2022 (1.4 GW met SG van 8 MW)

EDPR Acquires Renewables Business of Viesgo

Following the information released to the market on July 15th 2020, EDP Renewables announced the completion today of the acquisition of the control of the renewable business of Viesgo, for an enterprise value (100%) of EUR 565 million. In detail, EDPR will acquire 100% of a portfolio of 511 MW (EBITDA + Equity MW) of renewable installed capacity in Spain (84%) and Portugal (16%).

This transaction reinforces EDPR’s position as leading global renewables player, and in particular in Spain, with a strongly synergetic portfolio of high-quality assets with strong resource and low risk profile, while offering interesting future growth opportunities.

Vestas Bags 34 MW Order in Sweden

Vestas has secured a 34 MW order from Rabbalshede Kraft AB for the wind project Arjang NV2 that will be located in the Värmland County in west-central Sweden. The project will comprise eight V150-4.2 MW turbines with 155m towers together with a 25-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service contract, optimising the energy production for the lifetime of the project. This order underlines the 150-4.2 MW turbine’s competitiveness in the Nordic region, where it has now reached a firm order intake track record of more than 1.5 GW.

The contract includes supply, installation and commissioning of the wind turbines as well as a VestasOnline Business SCADA solution, lowering turbine downtime and thus optimising the energy output.

Turbine delivery is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2022, while commissioning is planned for the third quarter of 2022.

Siemens Gamesa Bags 66MW Turbines in Sweden

Siemens Gamesa has signed a 66 MW deal to supply Swedish wind energy supplier Rabbalshede Kraft with its Siemens Gamesa 5.X platform, as the take up for this market-leading turbine gathers strength in the Nordic region. The contract is the first with Rabbalshede Kraft in 11 years, with a renewed collaboration now to supply one of the most competitive platforms in the onshore segment offering customers a low Levelized Cost of Energy. The deal will also cover a 25-year service agreement. The contract will see Siemens Gamesa install seven turbines at the Femstenaberg site, which will form landmarks along the E6 highway linking Gothenburg with Oslo. Three other turbines will be installed around 5-6 kilometers away at the Lursäng site. Installation is due to begin in the summer of 2022.

Siemens Gamesa has signed more than 900 MW in the Nordics since the launch of the Siemens Gamesa 5.X platform, whose nominal power and leading rotor size provide customers with a highly competitive LCoE.

Vestas Secures Multi Site Order in Portugal

The Portuguese renewable energy producer Finerge has placed an eight MW order for the extension of three wind parks across Portugal. The order takes Vestas’ order intake in Portugal past 100 MW for the year and will add to the more than 750 MW of already installed Vestas wind turbines in the country’s fast-growing wind market. With this order, Vestas has secured 15 GW in global order intake in 2020.

The order includes the supply and installation of two V120-2.2 MW wind turbines and one V136-3.6 MW wind turbine, as well as a 20-year Active Output Management 4000 service agreement. Located in mountainous areas, the four wind projects will benefit from Vestas’ expertise in logistics and installations in even the most challenging conditions.

RWE to Build Bedburg A 44n Wind Farm

RWE is planning to commence construction of another wind farm on a recultivated opencast mining site as early as next spring, after the company was successful at the latest German auction for onshore wind farms. The future Bedburg A 44n wind farm will be situated on a recultivated former opencast mining site near the new motorway section of the same name. There, five Nordex wind turbines with an installed capacity of 5.7 megawatts each and a hub height of 164 metres will be erected over the coming months. They are due to be commissioned early in 2022.

Just like nearby Königshovener Hohe wind farm (67.2 MW), the Bedburg A 44n project is a joint venture of RWE Renewables (51%) with the City of Bedburg (49%).

Four of the wind turbines will feed electricity into the grid using the existing RWE Power infrastructure at the Garzweiler opencast mine.

The fifth wind turbine will provide electricity into the grid via the Bedburg-Kaster resource conservation village, which is currently under construction. This is a housing project of 130 units with an innovative energy, architecture and urban development concept. The project is another joint venture between the City of Bedburg and RWE, with additional partners, including E.ON, Westnetz and the Faktor-X agency; it is supported by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy programme “Regulatory Sandboxes for the Energy Transition”.

The planners’ vision is to use part of the electricity produced by the fifth turbine at Bedburg 44n wind farm to supply the resource conservation village with the help of an energy storage system, with the remainder feeding into the grid system.

Eneco biedt op groot Deens offshorewindpark

Energiebedrijf Eneco is een van de zes bieders in een aanbesteding voor de aanleg van het grootste offshorewindpark in Denemarken. Dat heeft de Deense overheid donderdag bekendgemaakt.

Eneco trekt samen op met de Deense partner European Energy, die al veel zon- en windparken ontwikkelt. Beide bedrijven hebben voor deze aanbesteding een nieuwe joint venture opgericht: Swan Wind.

Een van drie grote offshoreparken
De aanbesteding betreft het windpark Thor, dat 20 kilometer uit de kust in de Noordzee, ten westen van Denemarken, zal worden gebouwd. Het krijgt een omvang van 800 megawatt tot maximaal 1 gigawatt en moet tussen 2025 en 2027 worden aangesloten op het Deense elektriciteitsnet. Thor is de eerste van drie grote offshoreparken die volgens het Deense energieakkoord moeten worden gebouwd.

De Deense overheid verwacht eind dit jaar de winnaar van de aanbesteding te kunnen bekendmaken.

Zes partijen bieden mee
Naast Swan Wind doen nog vijf partijen mee in de bieding: een consortium van het Ierse SSE Renewables, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners en het Zweedse Andel Holding, het Duitse energiebedrijf RWE, het Deense Orsted, het Franse olie- en gasconcern Total samen met het Spaanse Iberdrola, en tenslotte het Zweedse Vattenfall.

Het is voor het eerst dat in de aanbesteding ook de verbinding van het park met het vasteland, inclusief het stopcontact op zee, wordt meegenomen. De Deense regering schat de totale investeringskosten voor het project op omgerekend €2 mrd.

Eneco won in Nederland samen met Shell een aantal jaar geleden de aanbesteding voor het offshorewindpark Borssele 3+4, dat dit jaar zal worden opgeleverd. Het bedrijf is ook eigenaar van offshore windparken Amalia en Luchterduinen en het won de tender voor windpark Hollandse Kust Noord. In België heeft het bedrijf ook offshore windparken.

DORE signs exclusivity agreement for Lake Vänern wind farm

Downing Renewables & Infrastructure Trust has signed an exclusivity agreement with UK-based renewable energy firm Bagnall Energy for a proposed investment in a 100 MW nearshore, shallow water wind farm to be constructed in Lake Vänern in southern Sweden.

The London-listed investment trust, which invests exclusively in a portfolio of diversified renewable and infrastructure assets, told investors that the exclusivity agreement gives it the option to enter a commitment for the Wind Farm once certain conditions have been met.

Once these conditions have been met, Downing would own around 40% of the project, with Bagnall and Cloudberry owning around 40% and 20%, respectively. The company detailed that the confirmation of the acquisition is expected to be announced in the summer of 2021.

The 100 MW wind farm project in Lake Vänern, which is the second wind farm on the lake, includes 16 turbines with an estimated annual power production around 350 GWh, significantly strengthening the access to clean and renewable energy in the region.

Shares in Downing Renewables & Infrastructure Trust have traded strongly since its IPO last month, trading within a range of 98p and 100p to open 0.53% lower this morning at 98.97p.

DORE, which previously raised £122.5 million in its IPO on the London Stock Exchange in December 2020, is targeting investment in a diversified portfolio of renewable energy generating assets and other infrastructure assets in the UK, Ireland and Northern Europe.

This project forms part of the renewable energy and infrastructure pipeline identified by Downing LLP and disclosed in DORE's prospectus dated 12 November 2020.

"We look forward to commencing the imminent construction of the 16-turbine project with an operational launch date for 2023/24,” said Tom Williams, Head of Energy & Infrastructure at Downing LLP.

He added, “Cloudberry is a leading hydropower and wind power plant expert in the Nordics and the wind farm is going to significantly improve the region's access to clean and renewable energy, supporting our mandate of investing in a diversified portfolio of high-quality renewable projects while continuing to play our part in global efforts to combat climate change."

Enel Green Power Starts Construction of Castelmauro Wind Farm

Enel Green Power has begun construction of the Castelmauro wind farm in Molise. The plant will be built between the municipalities of Castelmauro and Roccavivara, in the province of Campobasso, and will consist of seven wind turbines of 4.2 MW each, for a total capacity of 29.4 MW. The wind farm is expected enter service by the end of 2021. The plant will produce around 70 GWh each year from renewable sources, corresponding to the supply of electricity for around 29,000 homes, avoiding the emission of approximately 36,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere per year.

Castelmauro is Enel Green Power’s second wind farm currently under construction among those awarded in recent GSE tenders after the Partanna facility in Sicily, which has been under construction since last August.

RWE is Expanding Onshore Wind Farm Portfolio

RWE already operates onshore wind parks with a total installed capacity of approximately 650 MW in Germany. Currently, the company is constructing the Juchen A44n cooperative wind farm 27 MW in collaboration with NEW Re and the City of Juchen. Six wind turbines are being erected on recultivated land, which was previously part of the Garzweiler opencast mine. Commissioning is planned for spring. RWE is also continuously expanding its international wind portfolio of more than 6 gigawatts.

In addition to the domestic market in Germany, the company is currently constructing onshore wind farms in the US, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Italy and the UK.

Nordex Bags 33 Wind Turbine Order from wpd in Finland

Nordex Group received another order for N163/5.X turbines in the Delta4000 series in December 2020. wpd placed an order with the Nordex Group for 33 turbines for the 188 MW Karhunnevankangas project in Finland. The order also includes a Premium Service contract covering a period of 15 years and an option to extend by a further five years.

Installation and completion of the wind farm in the north of Ostrobothnia in western Finland is scheduled for 2022. The turbines will be supplied in a project-specific operating mode of 5.7 MW, resulting in a total output for the wind farm of 188 MW. For the first time the Nordex Group will be installing the turbines on tubular steel towers with a hub height of 159 metres. The height of the rotor blade tips of 240 metres means that the turbines reach higher wind strata with less turbulence at the site, which is located near the coast.

RWE Constructing 4 Onshore Wind Farms in France & Poland

RWE’s European renewables business has gained further impetus with decisions taken to invest in four new onshore wind farms with a total installed capacity of 76 megawatts. Three of the projects are located in France, and one in Poland. The first French project is already under construction, and work will begin on the three other projects in the first quarter of 2021. The overall investment for the four projects amounts to approximately €95 million.

The 26 MW onshore wind farm Les Pierrots is RWE’s premiere in France. It is located in the Centre Val de Loire region, 250 km south of Paris. The three remaining projects are the 18 MW Les Hauts Bouleaux, the 15 MW Martinpuich wind farm in the north of France and the 17 MW onshore wind farm Rozdrazew, located in Poland, 80 km south-east of Poznan.

All these projects arose from the purchase of the European onshore wind and solar development business of Nordex SE, which RWE acquired in November 2020. This acquisition added a further 2.7 gigawatts (GW) in France, Spain, Sweden and Poland to RWE’s existing 22 GW development pipeline. The bulk of the new portfolio – 1.9 GW – is based in France. The development business also included a team of more than 70 employees with extensive experience in this area, which is now part of RWE Renewables.

Iberdrola to Build Mikronoros Wind Farm in Greece

Iberdrola is accelerating investment in renewables and has started the New Year by breaking ground at the Mikronos wind farm, located in the province of Rhodopes in Thrace in northern Greece. With an installed capacity of 33.6 megawatts, the facility will comprise eight V150 wind turbines with 4.2 MW unit capacity, a hub height of 105 m and a rotor diameter of 150 m.

With commissioning expected for the middle of this year, Iberdrola's installed renewable capacity in Greece and Cyprus will stand at 335 MW.

In 2022, the company expects to commission three further wind projects, which will add a combined capacity of 100.4 MW, bringing the company's operating capacity in the country to 435.4 MW.

The additional projects are Askio II (33.6 MW), Askio III (50 MW) and Rokani (16.8 MW) wind farms, awarded to Iberdrola in last year's capacity auction.
