Siemens Gamesa Secures 184 MW in Poland

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has continued its winning streak in Poland following the award of three projects totaling 184 MW at the country’s last auction round held in December 2019. The company will supply 63 wind turbines to several customers including independent private investors to national and international utility companies. These contracts help to consolidate Siemens Gamesa’s strong market position in Poland, which is based on solid partnerships with local as well as international players and offering tailored solutions to enable the most competitive bids.*

These adjudications follow five other projects awarded at the 2018 auction with a capacity of 153 MW, underlining the competitiveness of Siemens Gamesa technology in the 2 MW and 3 MW class in the Polish market. In total, Siemens Gamesa has now secured the supply of turbines for eight projects from the 2018 and 2019 auctions, taking the current installation volume in the Polish market up to 337 MW. The electricity generated by the Siemens Gamesa wind turbines in these eight projects is sufficient to supply 530,000 households.

The Polish wind energy market began a new growth phase following the successful auction of around 1 GW of capacity in 2018 and a further 2 GW at a subsequent auction round in 2019. These auctions help to make Poland one of the most active and dynamic wind energy markets in Europe and worldwide. Siemens Gamesa has operated in Poland since 2003 and since then has installed a total capacity of more than 1 GW of clean energy. In addition, Siemens Gamesa is currently responsible for the maintenance of more than 600 turbines with a total output of 1.3 GW.

Vestas to Optimise Product Portfolio

Technological development has driven renewables to become the cheapest energy source in two-thirds of the world, with Vestas continuing to be a fundamental driver of this progress. It said “This development is ongoing, and with the renewables industry evolving rapidly as a result, market needs are constantly shifting. Vestas must adapt its technological development to ensure we are building the right solutions to address these changes, as well as the complexity we face from trade wars, tariffs, changing industry structures, and most recently a global pandemic. In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has and will continue to shape societies and economies, and the industrial challenges and economic turmoil it brings will likely take years for societies to recover from. Together with the renewables industry’s changing competitive landscape, Vestas is taking steps to ensure we exit 2020 in the position of strength with which we entered it.”

It said “More specifically, to ensure a strong focus on execution and long-term competitiveness, Vestas will further optimise parts of its product portfolio, which includes stopping certain projects with immediate effect. Simultaneously, and due to the extraordinary situation from the pandemic, additional measures are needed to ensure the organisation executes as strongly as possible on our order backlog and customer commitments in 2020. To this end, Vestas intends to reduce its workforce across functions in Denmark that do not directly support 2020 deliveries.”

It said “As a consequence of these measures, Vestas intends to lay off approximately 400 employees, which will primarily affect locations in Denmark. A limited number of layoffs is also expected in other locations in Europe. Additionally, Vestas’ registered directors in Executive Management will take a 10 percent pay-cut until end of 2020. The layoffs are expected to affect most Vestas locations in Denmark with the majority in Aarhus and Lem, due to technology projects driven from those locations being stopped. Vestas’ temporary facility in Viborg, which was established to serve specific projects from MHI Vestas Offshore Wind, will be closed. Following today’s announcement, Vestas employs more than 25,500 people globally and around 4,000 in Denmark.”

Path to 40GW of Offshore Wind Needs a Plan - SSE

There is no shortage of ambition towards the UK’s goal of meeting net zero by 2050. In a year in which record-breaking offshore wind strike prices were secured in the last CfD auction, the UK and Scottish governments both legislated for net zero targets. Recognising the role offshore wind will play, the UK Government set out an ambition of 40GW of offshore wind by 2030 in their General Election Manifesto. Delivering 40GW of offshore wind will be the backbone of the UK’s net zero energy system, but vital enabling actions are needed if we are to meet this new 2030 target. If we fail to remove the barriers to deployment now, we risk failing to achieve 40GW of offshore wind by 2030 and in turn our over-riding net zero 2050 target. Contrary to the position of just a few years ago, it is not the cost of offshore wind that is the issue, but rather the significant barriers to deployment, many of which are increasing. These range from consenting challenges, to grid and aviation radar issues, as well as reform of electricity market design.

SSE said “Delivering 40GW Of Offshore Wind By 2030 1That is why we’ve published a high-level paper setting out the nine key issues which we believe governments, regulators and statutory bodies need to work collaboratively with the offshore wind industry to address. Put simply, if there is no imminent progress on these issues, it will not be possible to achieve 40GW of offshore wind by 2030 or beyond. This requires a step-change in approach by all involved, but the good news is that the Offshore Wind Sector Deal provides a strong basis for building upon. The nine-point action plan published by SSE Renewables sets out an achievable roadmap that will see the UK overcoming current barriers and setting the country on a course to delivering 40GW by 2030.”

The recent economic downturn caused by the coronavirus outbreak has resulted in a fall in carbon dioxide emissions, but for all the wrong reasons. This will likely be short-lived as global economies seek to rebuild themselves once we begin exiting this crisis. That’s why it’s important we continue to make the investments we need in new low carbon infrastructure and why we should maintain focus on the UK’s net zero target.

Shell en Eneco vermoedelijke bieders op windpark Hollandse Kust Noord

Shell en Eneco leggen waarschijnlijk een bod neer in de lopende aanbesteding voor een groot windpark voor de kust van Noord-Holland. Beide energiebedrijven hebben de afgelopen weken afzonderlijk van elkaar bv’s opgericht die daarop wijzen, blijkt uit gegevens in Company.info.

Shell heeft op 15 april zes bv’s ingeschreven onder de naam HKN LP 1 tot en met 6, waarschijnlijk verwijzend naar Hollandse Kust Noord. Energiebedrijven brengen grote windparken vaak onder in aparte bv’s. De bestuurder van de bv’s is Justin Johns, die volgens zijn Linkedin-profiel financieel manager is bij Shell New Energies Renewable Power.

Subsidievrij

Het ministerie van Economische Zaken & Klimaat stelde op 2 april de inschrijving open voor de aanbesteding van windpark Hollandse Kust Noord. De inschrijving van het 700 megawatt grote windpark sluit vrijdag. Het ministerie nodigt in eerste instantie uitsluitend subsidievrije biedingen uit.

Het is onduidelijk of Shell ook echt een subsidievrij bod zal doen. Ook valt niet helemaal uit te sluiten dat het bedrijf uiteindelijk toch geen bod zal doen. Shell geeft desgevraagd geen commentaar.

Afzonderlijke biedingen

Datzelfde geldt voor Eneco. Het Rotterdamse energiebedrijf schreef op 17 april een nieuwe bv in onder de naam Eneco HKN B.V. Hier is de bestuurder een andere bv: Eneco Wind B.V.

De oprichting van de verschillende bv’s suggereert dat Eneco en Shell ieder afzonderlijk een bod zullen doen in de lopende tender. Tot nu toe trokken beide bedrijven samen in een consortium op in de aanbestedingen van windparken in de Noordzee.

Vattenfall doet niet mee

In december 2016 won Shell samen met Eneco en Van Oord en een dochter van Mitsubishi nog de aanbesteding voor de aanleg van windpark Borssele 3+4. Dat park, dat nu in aanbouw is, komt voor de Zeeuwse kust. Twee jaar later deden Eneco en Shell onder de naam Witwind mee aan de aanbesteding van windpark Hollandse Kust Zuid 1+2. Die tender werd uiteindelijk door Vattenfall gewonnen.

Het Zweedse bedrijf won ook de aanbesteding voor Hollandse Kust Zuid 3+4 en was van plan ook mee te doen aan de lopende tender voor Hollandse Kust Noord. Het bedrijf trok zich echter vlak voor de start terug. De economische omstandigheden als gevolg van de beperkende coronamaatregelen zijn voor Vattenfall te onzeker, liet het bedrijf weten.

Het windpark Hollandse Kust Noord speelt een belangrijke rol in de ambitie van het kabinet om het aandeel duurzame energie in Nederland te vergroten in lijn met de doelstellingen van het Parijsakkoord. Eerder werd bekend dat veel groene energieprojecten stil zijn komen te liggen.

AMSTERDAM (AFN) - Het Deense bedrijf Ørsted dingt meer naar de opdracht voor het ongesubsidieerde windpark Hollandse Kust Noord. De Denen maakten bekend een aanbod te hebben gedaan om het park voor de kust van Noord-Holland te realiseren.

Energiebedrijven hebben nog één dag de tijd om zich te melden voor de opdracht. De Zweedse energiereus Vattenfall, die de laatste twee tenders voor windparken voor de Nederlandse kust won, maakte eerder bekend vanwege de onzekerheden rond de coronacrisis niet mee te doen aan de veiling.

Hollandse Kust Noord moet een windpark worden met een capaciteit van circa 700 megawatt. Het park moet 18,5 kilometer uit de kust van Noord-Holland verrijzen. Met het project zou een bedrag van circa 1,4 miljard euro gemoeid zijn.

Turbine Installation Complete on East Anglia ONE Offshore Windfarm

ScottishPower Renewables and Macquarie’s Green Investment Group have successfully installed every single turbine on the East Anglia ONE offshore windfarm, another major milestone for the project as it approaches completion. Beginning in June 2019, a total of 102 Siemens Gamesa SWT-7.0-154 offshore wind turbines have been installed at the windfarm site, 43km off the Suffolk coast. Installation was undertaken by Siemens Gamesa using the Sea Installer and Sea Challenger vessels, operated by DEME. All turbine components were pre-assembled and loaded out from Peel Ports Great Yarmouth, following ScottishPower Renewable's GBP 5 million investments in the port to prepare it for construction and marshalling activity. The components consist of 75-metre fibre glass blades, tower sections and nacelles, which have been on view along the Great Yarmouth seafront and skyline as the 90-metre-high towers were constructed on the quayside.

Each of the 306 turbine blades were manufactured by Siemens Gamesa at its specially-built factory in Hull, England; while some of the towers were produced in Machrihanish, Scotland by CSWind UK. The work that took place at Peel Ports was supported by several local companies and personnel employed by Siemens Gamesa, including Lowestoft-based Delpro Wind and CLS Global Solutions, based in Great Yarmouth.

The windfarm is already making a substantial contribution to the production of green energy, with commissioning still underway. Once fully operational, it will produce 714MW of clean energy annually – enough to power the equivalent of more than 630,000 homes*.

Siemens Gamesa Wind Turbines for Iberdrola Wind Project Arrive at Port of Bilbao

After travelling 20,000 km and passing all the sanitary controls, the 42 wind turbine blades that will form part of Iberdrola's new project in Spain, the Puylobo Wind Farm, which is being built in Aragon, have been unloaded at the Port of Bilbao. Iberdola received this component, manufactured by Siemens Gamesa in China for planning reasons, while completing the civil work on the wind farm, supported by local suppliers, and the rest of the wind turbine elements: towers, nacelles/hubs, generators, multiplier and transformers are manufactured in facilities in Asturias, Cantabria, Soria and Burgos. Located in the municipalities of Borja and Mallén, in Zaragoza, Puylobo will have fourteen SG 3.4-132 wind turbines; a model with a 64.5 meter long blade, optimal for medium and high wind locations. With an investment of 50 million euros, more than 120 professionals will be involved in its construction. The farm's production, once it enters into operation this year, will supply clean energy to a population equivalent to 20,000 homes per year and will prevent 32,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year.

The heavy transport ship ZHI XIAN ZHI XING set sail from the port of Qinhuangdao, in China, on 7 March, and on its journey to Spain passed along the coast of Vietnam, crossed the straits from Singapore and Malacca, crossed the Gulf of Bengal towards Sri Lanka and the Laccadive Sea, going up the west coast of India to cross the Arabian Sea to enter the Gulf of Aden and then the Red Sea. After crossing the Suez Canal, it entered the Mediterranean Sea. It then crossed Gibraltar Strait, travelling along the coast of Portugal and then the coast of Cantabria, to the Port of Bilbao.

The Puylobo Wind Farm adds to twelve other renewable projects that Iberdrola is currently building in Spain -including a photovoltaic plant in Teruel, Aragon- and is part of the investment plan initiated by the company that provides for the installation of 3,000 MW of wind and photovoltaic by 2022. By 2030, forecasts suggest the installation of 10,000 MW. These actions will enable jobs to be created for 20,000 people in Spain.

Dominion Energy on Track to Build Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Project

Dominion Energy and its contractors remain on track to ensure the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project remains on schedule to become an economic driver in Hampton Roads. The project team and vessel crews have implemented processes to navigate the impact of the worldwide coronavirus pandemic. Two vessels, MV Sarah Bordelon and MV Marcelle Bordelon contracted through TerraSond, earlier this month started geophysical studies in the 112,800-acre project lease area, 27 miles off the coast of Virginia Beach where the 2,600-megawatt project will be built beginning in 2024. These surveys will provide the company with the geological, biological, and oceanographic data needed to support planning and construction in a manner that facilitates coexistence between the natural marine ecosystem and clean energy development. Ultimately, this data will support preparation of the project's Construction and Operations Plan to be submitted to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management later this year.

The survey vessels will be equipped with hull mounted and towed equipment to collect geophysical data, while additional equipment will be deployed later this summer at specific locations to conduct seafloor sampling. The survey vessels are based out of the Colonna's Shipyard in Norfolk.

Barges from Cape Henry Launch Service in Virginia Beach have hauled equipment and materials for the pilot project.

Crofton Industries in Portsmouth mobilized a vessel and divers to perform underwater work for the company's pilot project earlier this year.
Dominion Energy is also working with wind turbine and other manufacturers to encourage them to bring the much-needed U.S.-based supply chain to Hampton Roads, spurring economic development and employment opportunities in the region, while lowering project costs.

Vattenfall & Greencoat ink pact for South Kyle Wind Farm

Vattenfall has taken the final investment decision to construct South Kyle Wind Farm, which will be able to power approximately 170,000 UK homes, saving close to 300,000 tonnes in carbon dioxide emissions annually. As an essential part of the project Vattenfall has entered a partnership with renewable infrastructure fund Greencoat UK Wind, who will acquire the wind farm following its completion. Vattenfall will construct the wind farm and will manage the asset on behalf of Greencoat for a minimum of 10 years. Vattenfall will also purchase the power for a period of 15 years.

In line with UK government guidance to ensure the safety of employees amid the COVID-19 pandemic, construction of the wind farm will begin once it is appropriate to do so. Therefore, a timeline for construction is yet to be confirmed. Vattenfall is continuously monitoring precautions concerning COVID-19 and currently plan for the wind farm to be operational early 2023.

Ørsted & Nestlé Sign 15 Year Offshore Wind Power Purchase Agreement

The UK subsidiary of the world's largest food and beverage company, Nestlé, has signed a 15-year indexed fixed price agreement with Ørsted, the world leader in offshore wind, to buy green power from the Race Bank Offshore Wind Farm. Nestlé UK will buy the output of 31MW of the offshore wind farm's 573MW total capacity, making it Ørsted's largest fixed-price corporate power purchase agreement in the UK.

From 1 May 2020, Nestlé UK will start purchasing 125GWh of green power per year to cover 50 % of Nestlé UK power consumption. The agreement, along with Nestlé UK's already existing PPAs, secures that all of Nestlé UK's consumption is covered by PPAs from renewable energy backed by certificates. For Ørsted, it stabilises revenues for Ørsted's Race Bank Offshore Wind Farm and reduces merchant power price exposure across the portfolio.

In December 2019, Ørsted signed the world's largest PPA for offshore wind with Covestro for 100MW of the output from the Borkum Riffgrund 3 project in Germany. The corporate PPA with Nestlé UK is Ørsted's second in the UK, following the 23MW agreement with Northumbrian Water, signed in February 2019.

Race Bank Offshore Wind Farm is one of the newest operational wind farms in the UK and was commissioned in 2018. It is capable of generating up to 573MW of green electricity from its 91 Siemens Gamesa 6MW wind turbines.

Siemens Gamesa Acquires Ria Blades Plant & Completes Senvion Assets Acquisition

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy announced the final acquisition of all shares in Ria Blades SA, the business entity which owns and operates the onshore wind turbine blade production plant in Vagos, Portugal, as well as other additional assets required to operate the facility. The completion of this acquisition means that the company has fully completed the acquisition of select assets from Senvion. The manufacturing plant in Portugal offers best-in-class operational features and is well connected by both road and sea. The acquisition will help to strengthen Siemens Gamesa’s competitiveness in its onshore business by absorbing expected growth in production from external suppliers, mainly from Asia, and will become an export hub for international markets. It will further enhance existing manufacturing capabilities and limit the exposure to supply chain bottlenecks, volatility from foreign exchange markets and trade tariffs. The total purchase price for Senvion’s selected assets, including the manufacturing facility in Vagos, the Onshore European Services assets and IP is EUR 200 million

The integration of the Onshore European Service assets and Intellectual Property begun in early January 2020 and will strengthen Siemens Gamesa’s multi brand service portfolio, allowing the company to service an even broader range of wind turbine technologies. The Onshore European Service unit acquisition added approximately 9 GW in service fleet in 13 European countries, bringing the total serviced fleet to around 69 GW globally, while diversifying the business mix and geographical representation in Europe, with contracts that have long-term visibility and high renewal rates.

Wie stapt er nog in subsidieloze windparken bij deze stroomprijs?

Er is iets wonderlijks aan de hand met de aanbesteding van het grote windpark dat voor de kust van Egmond aan Zee moet verrijzen. De Staat schreef een tender uit: bedrijven kunnen aangeven tegen welke voorwaarden ze Hollandse Kust Noord willen bouwen. Eén ding is zeker: ze krijgen geen subsidie. Dus ze moeten het windpark terugverdienen met de opbrengst van de geproduceerde stroom.

En dan is er nog een ander ding vrijwel zeker: met de huidige stroomprijzen krijgen die bedrijven de parken niet, of bijzonder moeilijk, rendabel.

Door de coronacrisis verbruikt Nederland veel minder elektriciteit. NS zet minder treinen in, horeca is gesloten, bedrijven draaien halve kracht. Deze vraaguitval wordt bij lange na niet gecompenseerd door de computers en tablets die worden opgeladen voor het thuiswerken. Dat drukt de stroomprijs.

Ook al omdat het aanbod wél groeit. Stroom uit wind en vooral uit zon krijgt in Nederland nu echt enige omvang. Afgelopen jaar zijn er naar schatting 8,1 miljoen panelen geïnstalleerd, bijna een verdubbeling ten opzichte van een jaar eerder. Dat meldde onderzoeksbureau Dutch New Energy Research begin januari. Voor het tweede jaar op rij groeide het geïnstalleerd vermogen met meer dan 50%.

In technische termen: in 2019 bedroeg de elektriciteitsproductie uit hernieuwbare bronnen — voornamelijk wind en zon — 21,8 miljard kilowattuur (kWh). In 2018 was dit nog 18,5 miljard kWh, aldus het Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek in maart. Een toename van 3,3 miljard kWh, vooral door zon en bijstook van biomassa, of wel het verbranden van houtsnippers, veelal geïmporteerd uit het buitenland, in kolencentrales.

Hemwegcentrale

Eind vorig jaar sloot de Hemwegcentrale. De kolencentrale aan de rand van Amsterdam produceerde in 2019 nog 2,5 miljard kWh. Anders gezegd: aan duurzame energie kwam er in één jaar tijd meer bij dan de productie van een kolencentrale, met de kanttekening dat de Hemweg ook niet altijd aan stond.

Hoe dan ook, de trend is duidelijk: er komt steeds meer groene stroom. De opmars van windparken en zonneweides wordt geschraagd door miljarden aan subsidies, maar als het eenmaal zonnig is en waait, is de geleverde stroom vervolgens gratis.

Records gebroken

Martien Visser, lector Energietransitie aan de Hanzehogeschool in Groningen, signaleerde onlangs dat Nederlandse zonnepanelen en windturbines op land en zee op één dag, ergens in april, meer dan 70% van alle in Nederland verbruikte elektriciteit produceerden. Een record.

Meer aanbod van duurzame bronnen, minder vraag naar stroom: aan twee kanten staat de stroomprijs onder druk. Vorige maand was er sprake van negatieve prijzen. 'De gemiddelde elektriciteitsprijs op de Nederlandse spotmarkt in april slechts €19 per MWh', schreef Visser op 29 april. Wederom een record.

80% geleend geld

Dat is goed voor consumenten en bedrijven die veel elektriciteit gebruiken. Maar voor nieuwe windparken is dat juist nadelig. Want er zit een inherent economisch dilemma aan groene energie: als er steeds meer van komt, dan drukt dat de prijzen van stroom.

Grote Windparken worstelen met financiering

Windparken zijn behoorlijk zwaar gefinancierd met leningen: ze worden gebouwd met soms wel 80% geleend geld. Financiers worden huiverig van lage stroomprijzen. Nu is €19 per MWh een momentopname, maar wel een teken dat dit soort prijsniveaus mogelijk zijn.

Meer dan €1 mrd

De aanleg van een windpark op zee kost meer dan €1 mrd. Met lage stroomprijzen, zullen investeringen lastiger terug te verdienen zijn. Dus moeten energiemaatschappijen die windparken bouwen meer eigen geld meenemen, als ze dat hebben, en als ze dat ook daadwerkelijk kunnen investeren.

'Huidige prijzen zeggen weinig over de langetermijnprijzen', zei Frank Janse eind april. Hij is adviseur bij Green Giraffe, een bureau in onder meer Utrecht dat gespecialiseerd is in duurzame energie. 'Maar het is wel zo dat de interesse van marktpartijen erg afhangt van de elektriciteitsprijzen op dat moment.'

Meerdere aanvragen

De Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO) meldde vrijdag dat het 'meerdere aanvragen binnen kreeg' voor de subsidieloze tender Hollandse Kust. Begin april was er in de markt twijfel of de tender überhaupt door zou gaan. RVO beoordeelt de aanvragen en verwacht binnen dertien weken de winnaar van de vergunning bekend te maken.

Ørsted heeft als enige partij bekendgemaakt dat het meedoet in de aanbesteding. Het Deense bedrijf won in juli 2016 onder zijn oude naam Dong de aanbesteding voor het eerste windpark voor de Zeeuwse kust. Dat was ook de eerste van reeks grote windparken die volgens een zogeheten routekaart gebouwd gaan worden in het Nederlandse deel van de Noordzee. Dong kon het park destijds aanleggen, mét subsidie, voor een prijs van gemiddeld € 72,70 per megawattuur. Dat werd toen gezien als zeer laag: de huidige prijs is nog geen derde daarvan.

'De prijzen gaan omlaag'

Vier jaar geleden waren er 38 biedingen. Dat aantal zal nu bij lange na niet zijn gehaald. Er is maar een beperkt aantal spelers met de kennis en ook de financiële slagkracht om een windpark op zee aan te leggen. Vattenfall heeft dit keer niet meegedaan. Het Zweedse staatsbedrijf won eerder twee subsidieloze aanbestedingen voor de bouw van windpark Hollandse Kust Zuid, voor de kust bij Noordwijk, omdat het de beste garanties gaf dat het park ook daadwerkelijk zou worden gebouwd.

Voor de aanleg van Hollandse Kust Noord, uit de kust bij Egmond aan Zee, heeft het bedrijf zich niet ingeschreven. 'De situatie is onvoorspelbaar en onzeker', zei een woordvoerder begin april. 'We zien dat we nu minder energie verkopen en de prijzen omlaag gaan. De hele keten heeft door de coronacrisis te kampen met problemen. Ook voorzien we dat er betalingsproblemen gaan ontstaan. Daarom willen we nu voorzichtig zijn.'

Shell en Eneco

Naar verluidt hebben Shell en Eneco wel meegedaan aan de aanbesteding. De twee bedrijven willen er niets over zeggen, maar hebben afzonderlijk van elkaar bv’s opgericht die wijzen op deelname aan de tender. Shell en Eneco wonnen eind 2016, samen met Van Oord en Mitsubishi, de aanbesteding voor de aanleg van het tweede windpark voor de Zeeuwse kust. Ze hebben dus ervaring en de financiële munitie om dit soort megaprojecten op te pakken.

Net als Ørsted, dat binnenkort zijn 1.500ste windturbine neerzet. 'We hebben een sterk bod uitgebracht waarin we de risico’s in hoge mate beperken', zei Martin Neubert, topman van Ørsted Offshore in een verklaring. Daarin prees hij ook de Nederlandse overheid voor het vasthouden aan de deadline voor de tender en de doelstellingen voor hernieuwbare energie 'in een tijd van wereldwijde onzekerheid'.

Call op de stroomprijs

Wie ook de tender wint, door het uitblijven van subsidies is de aanleg dus een zogeheten 'call' op de stroomprijs. Er zijn sterke argumenten voor een prijsstijging, wat gunstig zou zijn voor de eigenaren van de parken: elektrificatie van woningen, toename van elektrische auto's, vergroening van de industrie. Dat leidt tot meer vraag en dus hogere prijzen.

Al zijn de argumenten voor een lage stroomprijs net zo sterk: straks staan er zoveel windparken op zee en zonneweides op land en panelen op daken, dat er steeds vaker overschotten aan stroom ontstaan.

Hoe dan ook, in een markt waar de rendementen onder druk staan, wordt met bovengemiddelde belangstelling uitgekeken naar de winnaar van deze aanbesteding.

Van Oord gaat funderingen Frans windpark vervoeren en aanleggen

Van Oord gaat de funderingen voor een windpark bij Bretagne vervoeren en ook aanleggen. Dat meldt het offshorebedrijf. Daarbij zal Van Oord de Aeolus inzetten, een nieuw schip dat twee jaar geleden voor tientallen miljoenen werd verbouwd en een kraan kreeg met een hefvermogen van 1600 ton.

De Aeolus gaat 62 zogeheten jacketfundaties - stalen buizenconstructies - neerzetten. Daar komen Siemens Gamesa-turbines van 8 megawatt op te staan.

Baai van Saint-Brieuc
De klus gaat volgend jaar beginnen en in 2022 komt er nog een tweede schip bij om de jackets te installeren. Financiële details zijn niet bekendgemaakt.

'Saint-Brieuc wordt ons eerste offshorewindproject in Frankrijk en ik ben trots op onze rol daarin', zegt topman Pieter van Oord van het familiebedrijf in een verklaring.
Het offshorewindpark wordt gebouwd in de baai van Saint-Brieuc, midden in de noordelijke kustlijn van Bretagne, 16 kilometer in zee. De jaarlijkse stroomproductie staat gelijk aan het elektriciteitsverbruik van 835.000 personen. De installatiewerkzaamheden duren een aantal maanden en lopen door tot 2022. In 2023 moet het windpark volledig operationeel zijn.

France to become Europe’s Fourth-Largest Offshore Wind Producer in 2030

France’s ambition to increase electricity production from renewable energy sources will make the country Europe’s fourth-largest offshore wind power producer in 2030, with 7.4 gigawatts of capacity in operation. The development is going full-steam ahead despite any potential cost or supply chain issues from Covid-19. According to France’s updated energy doctrine, 8.75 GW of capacity will be made available through tenders from 2020 to 2028. The plan aims to lift awarded capacity to 12.4 GW by 2028. Rystad Energy estimates that France will be able to reach a total installed capacity of 7.4 GW by 2030, surpassing that of other well-established offshore wind countries such as Belgium and Denmark, which have 2030 targets of 4 GW and 5.3 GW, respectively. And with an additional 5 GW of capacity lined up for planned tender rounds in 2024 to 2028, France is expected to retain this position well into the 2030s.

By 2030, this rapid development will place France only behind the UK, which is expected to have an offshore wind installed capacity of around 40 GW, Germany (between 15-20 GW), and the Netherlands (11.5 GW).

Modvion Installs Tallest Wooden Wind Power Tower in Europe

Sweden’s first wooden wind tower is now ready on Bjorko island near the city of Gothenburg. The wood construction is as strong as steel and makes the wind turbine climate-neutral from the start. It is not the first wooden wind tower in Europe, but it is much larger than other finished projects. The tower is 30 meters high and was erected by development company Modvion. Wooden structures replace emission-intensive materials such as steel. The wind power tower will be used for research purposes. But already in 2022, the first wooden towers will be built on a commercial scale

Modvion has signed declarations of intent with Varberg Energi for a 110-meter high tower and with Rabbalshede Kraft for 10 towers of at least 150 meters.

The tower was financed by the Swedish Energy Agency, the Vastra Gotaland Region and the European Union’s programme Horizon 2020 SME Instruments Phase 1.

Parkwind was sinds vorig jaar in gesprek met de Ierse regering omtrent nieuwe windparken voor hun kust. Ik vermoed dat zij dan één van de partijen zijn. Mijn vermoeden wordt versterkt gezien de capaciteit die bij hen vrij is gekomen na het afwerken van Nortwest(er) voor onze kust. Dit is een sterk vermoeden, ik kan dit niet hard maken (heb er nog geen research om gedaan).
