M.a.w het Aukus verdrag; de EU 40 miljard USD omzet minder, het VK, de VS en Australie veertig erbij. Het valt in de categorie van het opzeggen van het verdrag met Iran ((JCPOA). Daar verloor Frankrijk ook mega in, dus niet vreemd dat ze deze keer extra geirriteerd zijn. Eindbaas VS geeft Frankrijk nog een correctietik, dat kan niet eeuwig door blijven gaan zou je zeggen. Maar goed, de Neo-cons hebben de scenario's wel uitgewerkt, daar heeft Biden geen notie van.

Meanwhile, Dr Pacheco-Pardo said: "From what I know talking to people in Washington, Biden will look to be more balanced than Trump on North Korea.

"The sanctions will not be going anywhere, but there will be more engagement at the working level - and its clear to everyone that Biden has no incentive to meet with Kim Jong-Un."

Totaal niet actueel en niet interessant wat deze dictator 6 maanden geleden deed.
Deze dictator is gespecialiseerd in het uitbuiten van zijn onderdanen en is leider van het armste land ter wereld.

AL-QAEDA could rekindle its former bases in Afghanistan to plot atrocities against Britain and America within two years as the jihadis regroup, US spy chiefs have warned.

A month after the Taliban seized power in Kabul,the CIA said there are signs the terror group once led by 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden are returning to the country.

Al-Qaeda were vanquished from the country after the 2001 invasion that followed the 9/11 attacks and which toppled the Taliban that had been providing the terrorists with a safe haven.

But now with the religious fanatics back in charge following the shambolic withdrawal of US led forces, the group is said to be returning.

Speaking at an intelligence summit outside of Washington, CIA deputy director David Cohen said: "We are already beginning to see some of the indications of some potential movement of al-Qaeda to Afghanistan.

"We will obviously keep a very close eye on that."

Edmund Fitton-Brown, coordinator of the United Nations team that monitors the Islamist terror groups, said: "There's no doubt that the chatter is about this."

It comes as Professor Anthony Glees, from the Centre for Security and Intelligence Studies at the University of Buckingham, grimly warned of the return of the infamous terrorist training camps that once dotted Afghanistan.

In an exclusive interview with India Today, Saudi Arabia's foreign minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud said the resurgence of Al-Qaeda, ISIS and the Taliban in Afghanistan is a matter of 'real concern'.

The return and resurgence of terror groups Al-Qaeda and ISIS and the Taliban in Afghanistan is a real concern, Saudi Arabia's foreign minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud said in an exclusive interview with India Today.

"Transnational terrorism is a concern. For now, the Taliban have committed that Afghan soil will not be used for terrorism," he said.

Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud also stated that Saudi Arabia has no contact with the new Taliban government in Afghanistan. He said his country will "wait and watch" before recognising the new regime. Saudi Arabia was among the only three nations that recognised the Taliban regime in the 1990s.

"We want inclusivity and assurance of peace and stability in Afghanistan. I discussed this and agreed with India during my meeting with Dr Jaishankar," he said.

On Sunday, India's external affairs minister S Jaishankar had held talks with his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal Bin Farhan Al Saud. The latter arrived in New Delhi on Saturday evening on a three-day visit.

Islamic State in Afghanistan claims responsibility for attacks targeting Taliban

The Islamic State affiliate in Afghanistan claimed responsibility Sunday for a series of blasts over the weekend in the country’s east that reportedly killed several people and injured tens more in another escalation of violence as the Taliban works to consolidate its control.

The improvised explosive devices were set off Saturday and Sunday around the city of Jalalabad, capital of the eastern province of Nangahar and known as a stronghold for the Islamic State-Khorasan (ISIS-K). Though they are both Islamist groups, ISIS-K opposes the Taliban, which it accuses of not being extreme enough.

The Islamic State group’s Amaq News Agency said on its Telegram channel that six attacks Saturday and Sunday killed or injured over 35 Taliban members, Reuters reported.

Bilal Karimi, a Taliban spokesman, said a bombing Sunday in Jalalabad targeted a Taliban vehicle, killing one child and injuring two people, among them a Taliban member.

“We have started investigations into the incident to reach the culprits,” Karimi said.

But three residents, speaking on the condition of anonymity because they feared angering the Taliban, told The Washington Post that at least three civilians were killed, including a child, and scores more injured in the attack.

Residents said the blast also knocked down a major power line, though it was restored later in the day.

The violence followed a series of explosions Saturday. One resident said four people were killed and 22 injured in five incidents in the city.

Karimi said that only “minor blasts” took place Saturday and “a number of casualties were reported,” without providing specifics.

ISIS-K previously claimed responsibility for an attack at the Kabul airport on Aug. 26, which killed some 170 Afghan civilians and 13 U.S. service members at the already chaotic end of the U.S. withdrawal of troops after two decades in Afghanistan.

The Taliban rapidly regained control of the country amid the hasty exit of U.S. forces last month. The extremist group has since faced pockets of public opposition, including a resistance movement in Panjshir province and street protests by women who oppose the Taliban’s brutal gender-based restrictions.

At the same time, the political vacuum left by the swift fall of Afghanistan’s Western-backed government could further embolden ISIS-K, analysts have warned. The Taliban and U.S. forces previously found common ground fighting the Islamic State affiliate.

The Taliban leadership has said the group has softened its stances since it last ruled Afghanistan, from 1996 to 2001, when it became an international pariah for policies such as banning education for girls. Over its last month in power, however, the Taliban has formed an all-male government, imposed dress codes and segregated women at universities, and told female employees to stay home. On Friday, the group ordered high schools for male students to reopen — but made no mention of schools for female students.

US FORCES US submarine launches Trident II nuclear missiles in stunning show of strength after China’s latest threats

THE US Navy triumphantly test-launched Trident D5LE nuclear missiles on Friday in a stunning show of strength against China's latest threats.

The scheduled two-missile deployment of the unarmed revamped weapon took place off the coast of Cape Canaveral, Florida from the USS Wyoming (SSBN-742) submarine.

The impressive operation involving the Ohio-class ballistic missile warship was part of a Demonstration and Shakedown Operation, designated DASO-31.

Its aim was to evaluate the strength of the ballistic missile submarine and its crew before it is sent out for operational deployment after the subs upgrades.

The Navy boasted of the "unmatched reliability" of the new "sea-based nuclear deterrent" as tensions continue to increase with China.

It was the 184th successful Trident II (D5 & D5LE) SWS missile test flight and follows the last launch in February this year off the coast of Florida.

Vice Adm. Johnny R. Wolfe, Director of the Navy's Strategic Systems Programs, said: "Today's test demonstrates the unmatched reliability of our sea-based nuclear deterrent, which is made possible by a dedicated team of military, civilian and industry partners who bring expertise and dedication to the mission that is truly extraordinary.

"This same team is now developing the next generation of the Trident Strategic Weapon System, which will extend our sea-based strategic deterrent through 2084," he continued.

The War on Terror—in Afghanistan and Elsewhere—Is Far from Over, Biden Says

The president vowed to continue counter terrorism efforts.

There are no more American troops on the ground in Afghanistan, but that doesn’t mean the war there is over.

Even though the war in Afghanistan formally ended on Monday, President Joe Biden committed to continue counter terrorism operations inside the country using capabilities based beyond its borders.

“We will maintain the fight against terrorism in Afghanistan and other countries. We just don’t need to fight a ground war to do it,” Biden said Tuesday during an address at the White House. “And to ISIS-K: We are not done with you yet,” he continued, referring to the Afghanistan-based affiliate of the Islamic State.

Al Qaeda planned the Sept. 11 attacks against the World Trade Center and the Pentagon from Afghanistan, where the mountainous, rugged terrain offers plentiful hiding places where terrorism can thrive. The United States invaded Afghanistan in 2001 to catch and kill those who were behind the attacks.

But even after 20 years of war, the risk of terrorism in Afghanistan is still high, as demonstrated by the suicide bombing outside the airport in Kabul last week that killed more than 100 people, including 13 U.S. troops. ISIS-K, an enemy of both the United States and Taliban which has previously clashed with the terrorist group for control of Afghanistan, claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Pentagon retaliated on Friday, conducting a drone strike to kill an ISIS-K planner in Afghanistan. The U.S. military announced a second drone strike on Sunday that blew up a vehicle loaded with explosives to eliminate “an imminent ISIS-K” threat to the airport, where evacuation operations were still ongoing.

Biden said these missions prove that the United States can control the terrorist threat using “over-the-horizon” capabilities, such as long-range aircraft or drones that allow the Pentagon to hit targets without personnel in the country.

“I firmly believe the best path to guard our safety and our security lies in a tough, unforgiving, targeted precise strategy that goes after terror where it is today, not where it was two decades ago,” Biden said.

But some are skeptical that the Pentagon can adequately track and respond to terror threats without boots on the ground.

“Probably 60 percent of a Reaper’s flying time now will be taken up just getting to and from Afghanistan if they’re launched out of bases in the Gulf states,” retired Gen. David Petraeus, the former CIA director, said at an Atlantic Council event in August.

Lawmakers in May grilled the administration on why it was withdrawing from Afghanistan without a plan to keep assets in the region in a neighboring country, something the Pentagon has still not publicly released. David Helvey, the acting assistant defense secretary for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs, testified that the withdrawal was not linked to efforts to work with other nations to base capabilities in what he acknowledged was “a very difficult neighborhood.”

The nations that border Afghanistan include Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Iran, Pakistan, China, and a small stretch that’s disputed between India and Pakistan. Tensions between the United States and many of those countries make cooperation difficult.

There is also a carrier strike group in the Middle East that could be used if needed, Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby said in July, though getting to landlocked Afghanistan would require flying over Iran or Pakistan.

Another option is to work with the Taliban to eliminate threats from the common enemy of ISIS-K, which will be an option if the new Afghan government makes good on commitments to allow for free travel out of Afghanistan and respect the rights of women and girls, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Monday night.

“If we can work with the new Afghan government in a way that helps secure those interests...and protects the gains of the past two decades, we will do it,” he said. “But we will not do it on the basis of trust or faith. Every step we take will be based not on what a Taliban-led government says, but what it does to live up to its commitments.”
