Nova Poshta is one of Ukraine’s main postal services, which a lot of Ukrainians have come to rely on for deliveries of anything from food to household appliances. Not a military target, but an attack on civilian infrastructure by the Russians to make life harder for Ukrainians.

A Russian news outlet says China's credit card processor has refused to work with banks in Russia for fear of being targeted by sanctions over its attack on Ukraine

China’s credit card processor has refused to work with banks in Russia for fear of being targeted by sanctions over its war on Ukraine, cutting off a possible alternative after Visa and Mastercard stopped serving them, according to the Russian news outlet RBC.

UnionPay’s decision affects Sberbank, Russia’s biggest commercial bank, and smaller institutions, RBC reported Wednesday. It cited five unidentified sources in large Russian banks.

Mastercard and Visa suspended operations in Russia after the United States and other governments imposed trade and financial sanctions on President Vladimir Putin’s government for its attack on Ukraine.

American officials have warned that governments or companies that try to undermine sanctions will face consequences. RBC said UnionPay wanted to avoid such “secondary sanctions.”

Gouverneur Loehansk: steden worden constant beschoten

Alle door Oekraïne gecontroleerde steden in Loehansk worden constant beschoten, aldus de gouverneur van de oostelijke regio. De beschietingen worden daarnaast ook steeds intensiever. Er vinden in Loehansk al weken hevige gevechten plaats.

Oekraïense soldaten nemen stelling in het gebied tussen Loehansk en Donetsk, waar de Russen nu met volle kracht een offensief proberen in te zetten. (ANP)

De bestuurder meldde op televisie ook dat Oekraïense troepen aan het hergroeperen zijn en daarom sommige dorpen verlaten. Die stap staat volgens hem niet gelijk aan een grote tegenslag.

In Loehansk en de aangrenzende regio Donetsk, ook wel bekend als de Donbas, zijn volgens president Volodimir Zelenski ongeveer 44.000 Oekraïense militairen actief. Rusland en pro-Russische separatisten zouden in hetzelfde gebied tussen de 60.000 en 80.000 manschappen hebben.

De separatisten vechten al sinds 2014 tegen het regeringsleger. Zij hadden voor de Russische invasie ongeveer 30 procent van zowel Loehansk als Donetsk in handen. Sindsdien hebben zij meer grondgebied veroverd. De gouverneur van Loehansk zei woensdag dat zo'n 80 procent van de regio onder Russische controle staat.

Britse analisten: Russen komen geen stap verder
Ondanks hernieuwd inspanningen hebben de Russische strijdkrachten in de afgelopen 24 uur amper vooruitgang geboekt. Dat constateren Britse militaire analisten. Zij wijten het gebrek aan vooruitgang vooral aan de effectieve tegenaanvallen van Oekraïense eenheden.
Zowel de Russische luchtmacht als de marine heeft nog altijd geen volledige controle. Oekraïense afweer is een enorme sta-in-de-weg voor de Russen.
Ook in Marioepol worden geen grote veranderingen in de ingenomen stellingen waargenomen. Er wordt nog altijd hevig gevochten. Russische pogingen de stad volledig in handen te krijgen worden zwaar gefrustreerd. Daarmee wordt ook de opmars in de Donbas afgeremd.

Ukrainian counterattacks slowing Russian offensive in east

Russian troops are pressing their offensive in the eastern Donbas region in an attempt to fully seize Ukraine's industrial heartland but have made little headway as fierce Ukrainian counterattacks have slowed their efforts, Ukrainian and British officials said Saturday.
Russia continues to fight for full control of the Donetsk and Luhansk areas that make up the Donbas and seeks to secure "a land route between these territories and the occupied Crimea," including by wiping out the last pocket of resistance in the besieged port city of Mariupol, Ukraine's General Staff said.
Ukrainian forces over the past 24 hours repelled eight Russian attacks in the two regions, destroying nine tanks, 18 armoured units and 13 vehicles, a tanker and three artillery systems, the General Staff said.

"Units of Russian occupiers are regrouping. Russian enemy continues to launch missile and bomb strikes on military and civilian infrastructure," the General Staff said on its Facebook page.
Luhansk Governor Serhiy Haidai said Saturday that two people were killed by Russian shelling in the city of Popasna.
He said an evacuation train for residents of the Donetsk and Luhansk areas was expected to leave Saturday from the eastern city of Pokrovsk bound for the western city of Chop, near Ukraine's border with Slovakia and Hungary.
"In addition to the fact that street fighting continues in the city for several weeks, the Russian army constantly fires at multi-storey residential buildings and private houses," Haidai wrote on the messaging app Instagram. "Just yesterday, local residents withstood five enemy artillery attacks…. Not all survived,"
Britain's Ministry of Defence said despite their increased activity "Russian forces have made no major gains in the last 24 hours as Ukrainian counter-attacks continue to hinder the efforts."

Russia still has not established air or sea control due to Ukrainian resistance, and despite President Vladimir Putin's declaration of victory in Mariupol, "heavy fighting continues to take place, frustrating Russian attempts to capture the city, thus further slowing their desired progress in the Donbas," the Ministry of Defence said.
Ukrainian officials were trying again Saturday to evacuate women, children and the elderly from Mariupol after many previous attempts failed. The effort was to get underway at midday "if everything goes according to plan," Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk said on the messaging app Telegram.
Russia has pulled a dozen crack military units from Mariupol to bolster the offensive elsewhere in the Donbas, while other troops continue to keep the remaining Ukrainian troops in the city pinned in the Azovstal steelworks, the last remaining stronghold, Ukrainian officials said.
Putin is said to have ordered his forces not to storm the plant to finish off the defenders but to seal it off instead in an apparent bid to force them to surrender.

Russian forces have been pummelling the 2000 Ukrainian fighters still holed up inside, the mayor's office reported on Friday.

"Every day they drop several bombs on Azovstal," said Petro Andryushchenko, an adviser to Mariupol's mayor. "Fighting, shelling, bombing do not stop."
Mariupol has been reduced largely to smoking rubble by weeks of bombardment, and Russian state TV showed the flag of the pro-Moscow Donetsk separatists raised on what it said was the city's highest point, its TV tower. It also showed what it said was the main building at Azovstal steel plant in flames.
Under cover of darkness, Ukrainian forces have managed to deliver weapons to the besieged steelworks via helicopter, said Oleksiy Danilov, secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defence Council.

Overall, the Kremlin has thrown more than 100,000 troops and mercenaries from Syria and Libya into the fight in Ukraine and is deploying more forces in the country every day, Danilov said.
"We have a difficult situation, but our army is defending our state," he said.

Ukrainian Joint Forces Operation :

Nearly 50 units of Russian equipment destroyed in Donbas on April 22.

Russia lost nine tanks, three artillery systems, 18 units of armored vehicles, one armored combat vehicle, 13 units of vehicles and one tanker, the JFO said.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out a successful counteroffensive north of Kharkiv, liberating the settlements of Bezruky, Slatyne and Prudyanka from the Russian fascist invaders.

The operation was carried out on the morning of April 22nd. This was announced by Oleh Synyehubov, Head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration.

Driving the Russians out of these three villages puts the M-20 highway to the international border under Ukrainian fire control.
