Trump heeft vorige week al gezegd, voordat hij in de helikopter stapte (dus slechts een korte verwijzing):

China en Hong Kong horen bij elkaar. Zij zijn best wel in staat om de onderlinge problemen op te lossen.
We moeten ons daar niet mee bemoeien, het is een interne aangelegenheid.

Trump heeft toen, verkapt, al aan China het groene licht gegeven Hong Kong binnen te vallen. Wat China ook doet, Amerika zal zich er niet mee bemoeien.

Overigens, die ruzie met China middels een handelsoorlog is alleen voor de Bühne.
Achter de schermen gebeurt er heel iets anders.
Niemand heeft aandacht voor Erik Prince en zijn FSG(Foreign Service Group). Ook geen aandacht voor Steve Bannon en zijn Chinese contacten. ook weinig aandacht voor de Chinese personen, die op Mar-a-Lago zijn aangehouden.
Trump in een fanatieke handelsoorlog met Xi Ping en Chinezen lopen vrij rond in Mar-a-Lago, waar niet alleen Trump komt, maar ook kabinetsleden, senatoren en de top van de zakenwereld. Dat klopt toch niet?

U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration unveiled a new rule on Monday that could deny visas and permanent residency to hundreds of thousands of people for being too poor.

The long-anticipated rule, pushed by Trump’s leading aide on immigration, Stephen Miller, takes effect Oct. 15 and would reject applicants for temporary or permanent visas for failing to meet income standards or for receiving public assistance such as welfare, food stamps, public housing or Medicaid.

Such a change would ensure that immigrants “are self-sufficient,” in that they “do not depend on public resources to meet their needs, but rather rely on their own capabilities, as well as the resources of family members, sponsors, and private organizations,” a notice published in the Federal Register said.

“The principle driving it is an old American value and that’s self-sufficiency,” Ken Cuccinelli, the acting director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, said in a Fox News interview published on Monday.

“It will also have the long-term benefit of protecting taxpayers by ensuring people who are immigrating to this country don’t become public burdens, that they can stand on their own two feet, as immigrants in years past have done,” he said.

The overhaul is part of President Donald Trump’s efforts to curb both legal and illegal immigration, an issue he has made a cornerstone of his presidency.

He has pledged to build a wall along the U.S. southern border with Mexico - initially saying Mexico would pay for it - and has pressed for changes to immigration laws. Both efforts have made little progress with lawmakers.

This rule change on benefits could be the most drastic of all the Trump administration’s immigration policies, experts have said. Advocates for immigrants have criticized the plan as an effort to cut legal immigration without going through Congress to change U.S. law.

Under the new rules, more than half of all family-based green card applicants would be denied, according to the Migration Policy Institute, a research organization. Some 800,000 green cards were granted in 2016.

The new rule is derived from the Immigration Act of 1882, which allows the U.S. government to deny a visa to anyone likely to become a “public charge.” Immigration officers in recent years have defined visa applicants as a public charge if they are likely to become primarily dependent on government assistance.

Most immigrants are ineligible for the major aid programs until they get green cards but the new rule published by the Department of Homeland Security expands the definition of a public charge that stands to disqualify more people.

Applicants will now need to show higher levels of income to get a visa and the rule greatly expands the list of government benefits that would disqualify them from obtaining U.S. residency.

Immigrant advocates have expressed concern the rule could negatively affect public health by dissuading immigrants from using health or food aid to which they or their children are entitled.

Other parts of the Trump administration have taken or are contemplating similar approaches to penalize immigrants’ use of public assistance.

The State Department changed its foreign affairs manual in January 2018 to give diplomats wider discretion in deciding visa denials on public-charge grounds. In the 2018 fiscal year, which ended last September, the number of visas denied on those grounds quadrupled compared to the previous year.

The Justice Department also is considering a regulation that would dramatically expand the category of people who could be subject to deportation on the grounds that they use public benefits.

The Trump administration on Monday announced it has finalized a controversial rollback of protections for endangered species, including allowing economic factors to be weighed before adding an animal to the list.

The Interior Department regulations would dramatically scale back America’s landmark conservation law, limiting protections for threatened species, how factors like climate change can be factored in listing decisions and the review process used before projects are approved on their habitat.

“It means that in all likelihood that the federal government itself and individuals will be damaging the habitat and likely increase the timetable and likelihood of a species going extinct,” David Hayes, executive director of the State Energy and Environmental Impact Center and a former deputy of Interior, said in a previous interview with The Hill.

Going forward, the Endangered Species Act will no longer offer the same protections for threatened species -- those at risk of becoming extinct in the foreseeable future--as those that are already endangered.

“These changes crash a bulldozer through the Endangered Species Act’s lifesaving protections for America’s most vulnerable wildlife,” Noah Greenwald, the Center for Biological Diversity’s endangered species director, said in a statement.

Monday’s rule finalizes an earlier proposal from the Interior Department and prompted threats of lawsuits from many environmental groups who say the changes will gut the law.

The Endangered Species Act, first passed in 1973, is considered a success globally, surpassing protections for flora and fauna in many other countries. Environmentalists see it as one of America’s premier environmental laws.

But in the U.S it has been a target of industry, heavily criticized by some developers and lawmakers for working almost too well, making it difficult to encroach on habitat even once a species rebounds. Many would like species to be more easily removed from the list.

Interior described the new regulation as a modernization of the act “designed to increase transparency and effectiveness and bring the administration of the Act into the 21st century,” the agency said in a press release.

But environmentalists argue many of Interior’s changes will weaken protections for threatened and endangered species.

One big change from the administration is how far out in the future it will look to determine how at risk a species is of becoming threatened or extinct. Critics say such a move will stop Interior from considering how climate change will impact vulnerable species.

“We will look out into the future so far as we can reliably predict and not speculate,” Gary Frazer, the associate director for endangered species at the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) said in a call with reporters. “This might be climate-induced changes in a physical environment.”

Though whether to list a species as threatened or endangered would still have to be a science-based decision, the economic impacts of a decision could also be shared publicly.

That could include how protecting a species or its habitat might hinder the operations of the oil and gas industry, foresters, and many other operations that work on or near federal lands.

Hayes said the Endangered Species Act specifically bars such economic factors from being considered.

“We can expect if this goes final and if the court allows this to happen that industry will feed all kinds of sky is falling economic projections to the Fish and Wildlife Service and that information would be released at the same time a listing is proposed,” Hayes said. “The reason for it is obviously to influence the decision.”

'Ik meen me te herinneren, dat je in de jaren '50 ook niet zomaar een visum kreeg.
Ging je erheen voor vakantie, dan moet je een borg in de VS hebben ....

niets, maar:

ik meen me te herinneren dat zodra men tot de conclusie kwam dat dit niet de weg was om toerisme te bevorderen, om nog niet te spreken over het bestaansrecht vd VS, hoe e.e.a. ontstaan was....toen werd alles snel anders.
zo zal het in de toekomst ook gaan, de periode trump zal niet lang genoeg duren om definitief de VS een ander aanzien te geven.
gewoon een rimpeling in de vijver en een small step for mankind
om alles terug te draaien tot normale proporties.

Nu Jeffrey Epstein overleden is, gaat uiteraard de rechtszaak tegen hem niet meer verder.

Aangezien er andere partijen betrokken waren bij misbruik en handel van minderjarige meisjes, gaan de onderzoeken daarnaar onverminderd voort, eventueel gevolgd door rechtszaken.
