Oekraine is nu het kwa grootte de derde producent van landbouwgoederen naar de Europese Unie.
Oekraine is nu 's werelds grootste exporteur van graan.

Oekraine speelt een hoofdrol in de wereldwijde voedsel voorziening.

Staakt het vuren in Oost Oekraine

17 July was er een ontmoeting van de Trilateral Contact Group

Besloten werd het staakt het vuren echt te gaan naleven vanaf 21 Juli 2019 om 00:01 uur.

OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) ziet toe op naleving van het Staakt het vuren.

De OSCE eenheid MMS(Monitor Mission to Ukrainian) controleert naleving.

Op 21 Juli 2019(afgelopen Zondag) constateerde MMS 75 staakt het vuren schendingen
-3 explosies
-21 projectielen afgevuurd
-51 schoten van zware machine-geweren en kleine wapens

De partij(dienaar van het volk) van de huidige president is de grootste geworden. Een meerderheid is het niet in het parlement.
De president zei gisteren, dat hij in gesprek wil met de afgescheiden republieken Donetsk en Lugansk. Eerder had hij het over Poetin te willen ontmoeten.
Een vruchtbare samenwerking is alleen mogelijk wanneer de Oekraine afziet van een lidmaatschap van de NAVO en EU. Dan kun je zaken doen met Poetin.
Als dat je inzet niet is, gaat het over bijzaken bv gevangenenruil etc

Oekraine is echt heel groot.

Vergelijkbaar met van zuid naar noord :

Zuid Frankrijk, België tot Noord Nederland. Aan de Oostgrens van Frankrijk en Luxemburg met een rechte lijn omhoog (zo dus ook een stuk van het westen van Duitsland meepakken).
Dan dit gebied verticaal van zuid naar noord een kwartslag draaien met dus de lengte van West naar Oost.

Dat is Oekraine . Onmetelijk groot.

De slachtoffers vallen wel in Oost Oekraine. De soldaten van luchtmacht, leger en marine, komen echter wel uit de gehele Oekrainse bevolking. Dus iedereen kan geconfronteerd worden met slachtoffers in de familie of vriendengroep.

Gisteren 21 Juli zijn 2 Oekrainse soldaten om het leven gekomen.
Semyon Rumingin & Nikita Skitchenko overleden bij het dorp Shchastya als gevolg van een onbekend explosief apparaat, aangebracht door Russische strijdkrachten.

Zelenski naar absolute meerderheid Oekraïne

De nieuwe partij Dienaar van het Volk stevent af op een absolute meerderheid in het parlement van Oekraïne na de verkiezingen van zondag. Aanvankelijk zag het ernaar uit dat de partij van president Volodimir Zelenski weliswaar een monsterscore had behaald maar onder de 50% zou blijven. Maar maandagmorgen liet de partij weten te rekenen op 246 tot 249 van de 450 parlementszetels.

De 41-jarige Zelenski, een voormalige tv-komiek, was de grote verrassing bij de presidentsverkiezingen eerder dit jaar. Hij won als nieuwkomer de strijd om het hoogste ambt met een campagne tegen corruptie.

Dankzij de voor hem goed verlopen parlementsverkiezingen heeft Zelenski daar een absolute meerderheid. Zondagavond leek het er op basis van de exitpolls nog op dat er moeizame coalitiebesprekingen nodig zouden zijn.

Security Agency to Probe Steel Giant for Polluting Air in Zelensky’s Hometown

The Security Service of Ukraine has opened a criminal investigation into steel manufacturer ArcelorMittal for air pollution in Kryvyi Rih, President Volodymyr Zelensky’s hometown. The SBU announced the investigation in a July 17 statement. It did not name the private industrial enterprise accused of ecocide extensive damage to the environment but the target iss obviously ArcelorMittal, the largest steel plant in the country, which is based in Kryvyi Rih, a city of 635,000 people located more than 400 kilometers southeast of Kyiv.

Just days earlier, on July 12, Zelensky had visited Kryvyi Rih, one of the most polluted cities in the country, and criticized ArcelorMittal for failing to reduce toxic emissions that harm the health of city residents.

In a July 17 statement, the company said it has not received any official information regarding the probe, but is ready to cooperate with investigators. Its emissions have been within the permitted limits, the company said, and hinted that it could be facing political retribution ahead of the parliamentary vote on July 21. Polls indicate that Zelensky’s party is likely to be the biggest winner in the election. The statement read that “We hope the increased attention to our enterprise from state agencies and various political forces and the launch of an investigation by SBU on the eve of the elections is a coincidence and doesn’t indicate deliberate pressure on business.”

ArcelorMittal’s acting general director, Mr Oleksandr Ivanov, said that the plant has lowered emissions by 48% in 13 years and invested USD 4.4 billion in modernizing its steel mills.

Russian Gas Transit via Ukraine Jumps on Nord Stream Maintenance

Reuters, citing gas transport firm Ukrtransgaz, reported that Russian gas giant Gazprom has increased its gas transit via Ukraine to Europe by about a quarter, to 300 million cubic metres per day. Ukrtransgaz said a repair of both two lines of the Nord Stream pipeline between Russia and Germany was the reason for the jump in transit. Both lines are shut for planned maintenance July 16-30.

Russian gas volumes piped via Ukraine to European consumers in the first five months of 2019 rose to 37.6 billion cubic metres, up 8 percent from a year earlier.

Oekraïne legt Russische tanker aan ketting

Oekraïne heeft donderdag bekendgemaakt dat het in een van zijn havens een Russische tanker aan de ketting heeft gelegd. Moskou gaf Kiev meteen een waarschuwing.
De tanker in kwestie wordt verdacht van betrokkenheid bij een scheepvaartincident tussen de twee landen. Volgens Kiev nam de tanker in november vorig jaar deel aan de inbeslagname van Oekraïense oorlogsschepen door Rusland voor de kust van de Krim, het Oekraïense schiereiland dat door Moskou geannexeerd werd.
De tanker kwam woensdag in de haven van Izmail aan, aan de monding van de Donau, waar hij aan de ketting werd gelegd, deelde de Oekraïense veiligheidsdienst SBU mee.
Een groep speurders van SBU heeft de tanker doorzocht, documenten meegenomen en de bemanningsleden ondervraagd, zo werd in de mededeling gepreciseerd. Kiev bereidt een gerechtelijke vordering voor om het tankschip in beslag te nemen. De Russische matrozen mogen terugkeren naar hun thuisland. Dat heeft de Russische ambassade in Kiev donderdag gezegd. 'De bemanning keert terug naar huis. Het schip blijft in Izmail', zegt een Russische diplomaat.
In een reactie eerder op donderdag gaf Moskou meteen een waarschuwing aan Kiev. 'Als het om een gijzeling van Russen gaat, dan zal dat beschouwd worden als een grove schending van het internationale recht en zullen de gevolgen niet lang uitblijven', waarschuwde het Russische ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken, dat de toestand onderzocht om ‘gepaste maatregelen’ te treffen.
Eind november namen de Russische autoriteiten drie Oekraïense oorlogsschepen in beslag die door de Straat van Kertsj naar de Zee van Azov probeerden te varen. Het was het eerste rechtstreekse gewapende incident tussen de twee landen, wier relaties sinds 2014 een zware crisis doormaken. Sinds de inbeslagname worden 24 Oekraïense matrozen vastgehouden in Rusland.
Volgens SBU nam de tanker Neyma deel aan de blokkering van de Oekraïense schepen door hen de toegang tot de Straat van Kertsj te versperren. De Russische eigenaars van het schip wijzigden nadien de naam van de tanker in Nika Spirit om ‘zijn betrokkenheid bij deze daad van agressie te verbergen’.
De nieuwe Oekraïense president Volodimir Zelenski vroeg eind mei aan zijn Russische ambtgenoot Vladimir Poetin de militairen van de drie oorlogsschepen vrij te laten, maar half juli verlengde het Russische gerecht hun aanhouding met drie maanden.
De relaties tussen Rusland Oekraïne zijn erg gespannen sinds pro-westerlingen in 2014 aan de macht kwamen in Kiev. Daarna werd de Krim door Rusland geannexeerd en brak in het oosten van Oekraïne een conflict met pro-Russische separatisten uit waarbij in vijf jaar tijd bijna 13.000 doden vielen.

GE and LongWing Update on Zaporizhia Onshore Wind Farm in Ukraine

GE and LongWing Energy SCA reached financial close on a USD 150 million debt financing package for the first phase of the Zaporizhia Wind Farm, in the Zaporizhia region in southeast Ukraine. The phase one 98-MW project is expected to produce over 330,000 MW hours of clean energy per year and power approximately 170,000 households. The transaction marks GE’s fourth wind farm project in Ukraine to be financed and equipped with GE wind turbine technology. Financing will enable the build-out of phase one, which will comprise 27 GE Renewable Energy 3.6 MW onshore wind turbines with a rotor diameter of 137 meter, a hub height of 110 meters, and a 15-year Full-Service Agreement.

GE Energy Financial Services as a minority equity investor, worked with the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, the US Government's development finance institution, to unlock project financing for the first phase of the Zaporizhia Wind Farm. The debt financing will be provided by OPIC, with JP Morgan as hedge provider.

The project is projected to achieve commercial operations in 2020 and contribute to Ukraine’s 2030 Paris Agreement goals by reducing its reliance on gas imports. The electricity produced by the Zaporizhia Wind Farm will be sold via a power purchase agreement to state-owned Ukrainian enterprise, Energorynok, which will benefit from a 10-year fixed rate feed-in tariff. Upon full completion of up to a total of 500 MW, the project is expected to be the largest wind farm in the Ukraine to be financed on an international non-recourse project financing basis and will be one of the top five largest operating onshore wind farms in Europe powering approximately 780,000 homes in Ukraine.

Ukraine has 15.9 BCM of Gas in Storage So Far for Winter - Naftogaz

Reuters, citing Ukrainian state energy firm Naftogaz, reported that Ukraine has accumulated 15.9 billion cubic metres of gas in storage as of July 31, up from 12.8 bcm at the same time last year. The country added 2.3 bcm in July and aimed to stockpile a total of 20 bcm by mid-October, when the 2019/20 heating season starts. Ukraine last year stored 16.9 bcm of gas for the 2018/19 heating season that ended in April.

Naftogaz said the country would need to store more gas to avoid a shortage this winter. Its 10-year contracts with Russian giant Gazprom for gas supply and transit expire at the end of the year, but negotiations about further deals have not yet started.

EBRD Loan to Support Upgrade of Ukraine’s Transmission Network

Ukraine’s energy network will receive a major boost following an investment of up to EUR 149 million by the EBRD into the country’s power transmission system. The investment will help Ukrenergo upgrade its key transmission infrastructure required for the synchronisation with the European electricity networks. It will also assist Ukraine in aligning its legal framework and operational practices with the EU 3rd Energy Package.

Ukrenergo will use the 15-year sovereign-guaranteed loan to acquire up to 26 new transformers and carry out the automation and upgrade of 12 high-voltage substations in key locations of the Ukrainian transmission network. The loan will also contribute to the annual reduction of CO2 emissions by 20,500 tonnes.

The investment will strengthen Ukrenergo’s capacity to accommodate the growing share of renewables in the Ukrainian grid, with an increasing share of wind and solar power. A flexible, smart grid will be key to the sustainable electricity sector of the future.

The EBRD financing is also promoting the commercialisation and institutional development of Ukrenergo through the implementation of a comprehensive Corporate Governance Action Plan and robust procurement standards.

Ukraine Increases Imports of Copper By 22%

Open4Business reported that Ukrainian enterprises increased imports of copper and copper products in terms of money by 22.1% in January to July 2019 compared with similar period of 2018, to USD 63.366 million. According to customs statistics released by the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine, exports of copper and copper products decreased 48.3% over the year to USD 52.164 million. In July, copper and copper products were imported to the tune of USD 10.336 million, and copper exports were estimated at USD 5.990 million.

In addition, through seven months of 2019 Ukraine decreased imports of nickel and products made of it by 10.1%, to USD 52.833 million (imports in July were estimated at USD 8.520 million), while imports of aluminum and products made of it increased 8.4%, to USD 228.420 million (USD 40.390 million). Imports of lead and products made of it decreased by 1.7%, to USD 7.481 million (USD 1.143 million) and imports of tin and products made of it decreased 17.4%, to USD 2.038 million (USD 377,000). Imports of zinc and zinc goods decreased 18.7%, to USD 41.868 million (USD 9.384 million).

Exports of aluminum and products made of it decreased 27.4% in January to July 2019, to USD 60.540 million (USD 9.177 million in July alone), while shipments of lead abroad decreased 34.1%, to USD 14.914 million (USD 2.432 million). Exports of nickel fell by 39.8%, to USD 3.267 million (USD 0.274 million in July).

Zinc exports in January-July 2019 amounted to USD 385,000 (USD 28,000 in July) compared to USD 148,000 in January to July 2018.

Exports of tin and products made of it in January to July 2019 were estimated at USD 30,000 (some USD 1,000 in July) compared to USD 269,000 in January to July 2018.

The Seaports of Ukraine Container Throughput Reached 545,800 TEUs in January-July 2019

The Ports of Ukraine reports citing statistics of Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority, container throughput at the seaports of Ukraine in January-July 2019 reached 545,800 TEUs, which is a 20% spike on the same period last year. Handling of import containers rose 19.8% to 265 659 TEUs, export containers – by 18.7% to 259 232 TEUs and transit containers – by 42.2% to 20,912 TEUs. Containers were handled in the following seaports: Odessa Sea Port (66% of the total container volume), Pivdenny Sea Port (21%), Chernomorsk Sea Port (12.9%), Olbia Specialized Sea Port (SSP) and Reni Sea Port (both less than 1%).

Odessa port container volume increased by 9.3% to 360,417 TEUs. Pivdenny port doubled its container throughput to 114,545 TEUs. Container traffic at the port of Chernomorsk rose 3.1% to 70,756 TEUs. SMP “Olvia” handled 83 TEUs against 289 TEUs a year earlier, the port of Reni - 2 TEUs.

USPA figures show that handling of containers in tonnes increased by 19.1% to 7.10 million tonnes, and by 19.7% in twenty-foot equivalent units, to 346,412 TEUs.

President of Ukraine Promises to Reduce Electricity Tariffs by October 1

Oleg Ayko, head of the raw materials procurement department of the ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih supply department, who participated in meeting in the Office of the President of Ukraine on the current situation in the electricity market after the introduction of a new model of the wholesale energy market on July 1, said “We were assured that before October 1, industrial companies will be reduced by 15–20% in electricity tariffs. This meeting was attended not only by representatives of the Cabinet of Ministers and relevant departments, but also by major electricity producers.”

Oleg said “We are grateful to the Presidential Office that they invited us to a meeting and made it possible to outline the position of large industrial enterprises, since this is an extremely acute topic for us. During my speech, I recalled the current 25% difference in electricity costs between Ukrainian and European metallurgists - now it is not in our favor. He also asked to take into account the general trend towards lower world prices for energy and raw materials for metallurgy. Against this background, an increase in electricity costs from July 1 by 20% worsens the position of Ukrainian exporters in world markets. Besides, such a jump in prices will negatively affect the entire Ukrainian economy. Therefore, the meeting discussed various options for lowering electricity prices, some of which have already been announced by the representative of the president in the Cabinet of Ministers Andrei Gerus. We hope that measures will be taken to regulate the energy market, which will help reduce tariffs by October 1, not only for industrial enterprises, but also for other non-domestic consumers. In any case, the President of Ukraine gave such an order at the meeting.”
