Imo claimde Bharat met COMVAC5 om mee te doen in de Indiase immunisatie campagne maar is/was nog niet WHO goedgekeurd. Is een volledig eigen ontwikkeling (zie artikels hiervoor).

EasyFive van Panacea heeft 2 versies:
1e versie met toegeleverde componenten is WHO goedgekeurd (4 componenten van Novartis).
2e versie met eigen Hib-component is/was nog niet goedgekeurd.

Lijkt Serum Institute te zijn (zie post van 'de echte zoef' in AVA draadje).

De 2 enige WHO goedgekeurde liquid-vaccines zijn nu die met Novartis componenten: Quinvaxem en EasyFive (Novartis rules the way...)

Dank zij de overname van Rhein Biotech kwam Berna (en later Crucell) in het bezit van het Koreaanse Green-Cross en het Hepatitisch-B vaccine waarmee Quinvaxem gemaakt wordt.

Wat verdienden de ex-RheinBiotech aandeelhouders?

Verkoop Rhein Biotech Gmb aan Berna:
elk aandeel RB goed voor 1,32 aandeel Berna + 33,75 EUR cash.

Verkoop Berna aan Crucell:
elk aandeel Berna goed voor 0,447 aandeel Crucell.

Goede deal dus voor Crucell.

De aandeelhouders RB kregen omgerekend 0,59 Crucell
aandeel + 33,75 EUR cash (en konden Crucell verkopen nabij all_time_high).

Wie de aandelen behouden heeft, heeft een mooie KT return kunnen opstrijken van 33,75 EUR cash want de Crucell aandelen noteren momenteel zowat aan Break-even van de oorspronkelijke RB investering, ten opzichte van Crucell all_time_high. Nie neuten dus RonB !

Uniject

AVA 2010:

Uniject: ontwikkeld door PATH, licentieovereenkomst gesloten met producent BD met daarbij bedongen dat leveringen aan de farmaceutische industrie tbv projecten in ontwikkelingslanden tegen "speciale prijs" zal geschieden.

Do we want the Unipenta?: Initial VPPAG survey results

The Vaccine Presentation and Packaging Advisory Group (VPPAG) is a forum for public sector and industry dialogue, focusing on new vaccines for developing country markets. In 2009, VPPAG issued its generic Preferred Product Profile (gPPP) recommending "ready-to-use" presentations, with mention of compact pre-filled autodisable injection devices, such as Uniject™, being particularly desirable.
The NUVI meeting in Montreux, 23-25 June provided an opportunity for a VPPAG survey on the benefits and constraints for pentavalent (DTPHepBHib) vaccine in Uniject™. The survey was completed by 47 people, nearly all of whom (92%) were already familiar with Uniject and supported its use. Ease of use and safety were the key advantages cited by respondents; and that its features would be of greatest value in outreach.

The main concern was the cost of the device which also generated the most discussion at the “Marketplace” session of the NUVI meeting. It would also require additional training, even though one of its advantages is the ease of training lay workers. And even though it can be of similar volume to a singledose vial, that is still more storage volume per dose than a multi dose vial.
Despite its advantages, only 37% of respondents were willing to pay extra for the device, and half of these were not willing to pay more than $0.10 extra per dose, even though direct and indirect cost savings could be at least this much.

FWIW, voortbordurend op bovenstaande...
Uniject en Pentavalent in "survey results": --> Quinvaxem dus.
Stille hint (?) UNICEF: ja "we" willen de Uniject wel, gezien de voordelen graag zelfs, "maar deze innovatie mag zo goed als niets kosten".

Niet geheel duidelijk wat hierboven met "direct and indirect cost savings" wordt bedoeld maar het lijkt mij dat een UNICEF kostenpost v.w.b. afzonderlijke injectienaalden zal kunnen komen te vervallen, terwijl een deel ervan vervolgens kan/moet worden teruggevonden in Uniject materiaalkosten dus redelijk van belang in het totale materiaal kostenplaatje.

Exclusieve rechten voor het gebruik van de Uniject voor dit type vaccin betekent waarschijnlijk een overeengekomen minimum afname tussen producent en CRXL. Onbekend tegen welke prijs en bij welke aantallen, althans bij de gemiddelde forumganger, maar in geval van uiteindelijk richting 10^8 (?) stuks per jaar gaat het vermoedelijk toch om aardige bedragen.

Kosten zullen imo wel meevallen. Oa. flesje zal ook komen te vervallen en vervangen worden door het injectie apparaatje.

Daarop zie je ook duidelijk het label (vierkantje VVM14) dat verkleurt indien het product niet goed bewaard werd.

On May 24, two world health organisation experts recommended the vaccine “promptly resume”.
However, the health ministry on June 10 decided to further suspend the vaccine for a year until June 2011, “due to the inability to establish the true cause of disease in each case.”

In a press conference yesterday, health officials, including the health minster said they were still discussing on whether to make vaccination voluntary in the country.
“The vaccine’s image is destroyed and we need to rebuild the trust,” the public health director said.
“So we’re bringing in a brand, which Sri Lanka and Nepal are using to reinstate people’s confidence in the vaccine.”

In relatie tot een toekomstige QV tender:
volgens het Q2 2010 PB (van vorige maand dus) wordt de comparability study voor QV verwacht in Q3, waarvan het einde rap nadert.
Indien OK, ontbreekt er dan nog iets om te starten met "en masse" QV/Hep-B productie in Incheon zodat de productie reeds de komende maanden aanzienlijk kan worden opgekrikt?

Pentavalent vaccine
Since the trivalent vaccine--which fights against diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (DTP)--was created in 1942, scientists have been trying to roll more shots into one. Doing so not only reduces the number of vaccinations required to protect children from diseases but also brings costs down. After the DTP vaccine was introduced in developing countries, tetanus deaths have reportedly gone down by 88% while pertussis cases have been reduced by 70%.

Shots against hepatitis B which can cause liver cancer in adults, and Haemophilus influenzae type B (HiB) have already been combined with the DTP, creating a pentavalent vaccine which according to GAVI has improved hepatitis B coverage to 68% and HiB coverage to 24% of newborns in the world’s poorest countries.

But Microsoft chairman and philanthropist Bill Gates noted that the pentavalent vaccine, which costs at least $8 more than the trivalent, is still hampered by pricing and delivery problems. “But as manufacturers produce more vaccine and additional competitors come into the market, the cost premium should drop by half in the years ahead,” said Mr. Gates in his 2010 annual letter as cochairman of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The organization, a major donor in global health, is currently funding the development of a viable malaria vaccine. WHO data show that nearly a million people died of the disease in 2008.
While the battle against malaria has focused mainly on shielding people from the its bloodsucking carrier, mosquitoes and the malaria parasite have been showing signs of increased resistance to drugs and insecticides.

Dan nog zou $8 alleen nog maar de MEERprijs zijn t.o.v. trivalent, in de publieke markt.
En ik geloof niet dat Bill het in bovenstaand stukje over de publieke markt had.
