Boskalis sees higher 2008 profit, but shares dip

AMSTERDAM, Nov 5 (Reuters) - Dutch dredger Boskalis Westminster NV expects 2008 net profit to come in at the high end of its range, it said on Wednesday, but its shares fell as some investors had hoped that it might raise its forecast.
Its full-year net profit is now expected to rise by 15 percent, compared with the forecast range of 10 to 15 percent announced in August, Boskalis, the world's largest dredger, said in a statement.
In 2007 its net profit increased 75 percent to 204.4 million euros, thanks to a capacity shortage in the global dredging market.
Boskalis's shares led decliners in the Amsterdam mid-cap index and were down 7.3 percent at 27.48 euros by 1430 GMT.
'Maybe some investors were hoping for a bit more. People are looking beyond 2008 and they don't know what's happening,' said Rabo Securities analyst Michael Roeg.
'Also, the stock was up strongly yesterday,' he added, referring to a 15 percent gain made on Tuesday.
However, the company might beat its own target, said Roeg. 'It has the habit of overdelivering.'
Boskalis is coping well with the credit crisis and the economic downturn, said spokesman Martijn Schuttevaer.
'Both are not affecting us,' he said.
He confirmed the company's intention to issue details of a takeover bid for maritime services company Smit Internationale before Dec. 8 but declined to provide details.
Boskalis had previously announced an intended bid of 62.50 euros per Smit share which Smit rejected. Smit was up 1.56 percent to 55.50 euros.
