Even though trade negotiations with China are "going very well," the United States is not ready to make a deal, said President Donald Trump on Friday. He added that he has "no choice" but to continue with the current policy towards Beijing. However, the resumption of high-level talks next month could "maybe" get canceled, Trump warned.
With the latest measure, Washington targeted Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. once again, banning purchases of its equipment by government agencies. Speaking in front of the White House, Trump underlined the US will not do business with Huawei without a wider trade deal.
Turning to monetary policy, the president added that the dollar is the "safest currency in the world" but its high value hurts domestic manufacturers, which is why the Federal Reserve needs to lower interest rates further, by one percentage point
