ArcelorMittal's Q1 earnings to jump by 118%, analysts say
Analysts expect global steelmaker ArcelorMittal’s earnings to jump by 118.23% year-on-year in January-March 2017, the company said on Wednesday May 3.
The company’s earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) are forecast to be $2.03 billion in the first three months of this year, compared with $927 million in the corresponding quarter of 2016. The consensus figures are based on estimates from 20 sell-side analysts. "The expected year-on-year improvement in first-quarter Ebitda reflects the sharp recovery of the steel sector from last year’s cyclical low," Ioannis Masvoulas, an analyst at RBC Capital Markets, said. "
“We will also see a big increase in the mining division’s Ebitda, mostly because of the recovery in iron ore prices in the first quarter of 2017,”
