You are effectively buying real shares in the FTSE 500 its real time (although there is a slight delay of around 10-15 minutes) I use google finance and have a look at what company's are trending well and have good sustainability and growth, Im new to this too but have been reading and learning into stocks as its something I want to get into as a side income. This is a good start on getting a feel for trading. if you have Iphones and the podcast app, search for stock broker university and it helps you in knowing all the basics - definitions etc. Hope this helps guys
