I am part of a league which will conclude around christmas time. Any tips on what I should buy and how many units of each in order to get positive income?

Well Mr 'AS level business studies'.

That's a well presented question. There will be two types of people that can answer that question.

1. Someone competing in the prizegame and won't want to make public their thoughts to beat all their competitors

and

2. The rest who aren't playing here because they are making money on real stock trading sites.

And I'm not either, mores the pity.

1) Read the Investing the basics.
2) Keep an ear out for 'Breaking news' anywhere in the world
3) Research - websites like www.ukcitymedia.co.uk give a summary about financial events.
4) Look at the top 10 portfolios
5) Go with the general trend
6) for the next few weeks go 'short' pick any stock doesnt matter which- try to go for stocks priced under £10.
7) Keep a 'watchlist' on the stocks that are of interest to you.
8) Depending on your level of risk- either put down £25 per stock- for higher returns as well as losses- or go for about £10k per stock- medium risk
