Published: 20-11-2006
Claranet, the Internet experts that develop, support and manage communication and information technology for business, has today launched a new series of forums to promote 'zero-downtime' for Internet based systems and online brands.
The new series of forums will bring together industry leaders and technical experts to address the issues surrounding downtime for businesses.
Hosted by Lord Anthony St. John of Bletso - crossbench Member of the House of Lords - the first seminar will discuss the wider issues around 'always-on' Internet services and ask whether 'zero downtime' for Internet based systems is really achievable.
Information security expert Howard Schmidt - Chair of TrustELI and the former White House, Microsoft and Ebay Chief Security Officer - will address the forum on the state of the Internet from an information security perspective. The forum will also feature addresses from, Chris Simpson, Chief Inspector of Scotland Yard's e-crime unit, Mitch Garber, CEO of PartyGaming, Orlando Scott-Cowley, Director of Development at Mimecast and Claranet's Head of Managed Services, Marino Zini.
Each subsequent seminar will focus on a different aspect of the debate. Future forums will include:
'Defending your information against attack' will address how
businesses can secure their data and network. The seminar will look at logical security, DDoS, phishing, email, bots, botnets, zombies, application-level security and managed security services.
'Tower of Babel and other stories' will look at how to get IT staff,
vendors, suppliers and other business personnel to speak the same language and work effectively together.
'Compliance - the latest issues' of SOX, Basel2, SAS70, PCI,
7799, and education.
'Planning for a zero downtime future' will address the 24/7 365
corporation and the advantages of zero downtime in the future.
'Avoiding the open backdoor - best practise in programming'

'Wireless Security - from home to corporate network and mobile
devices' looking at the best practices to protect individuals, employees and organisations.
'Legislation and changes in the law' and how it affects
e-commerce and on-line operations.
The series of forums will take place over the next 12 months.
Marino Zini, the seminar Moderator and Claranet's Head of Managed Services said, "We will make these forums freely available online after the event. The forum is a great opportunity to share Claranet's expertise, and to learn through discussion with fellow attendees and leading experts in business security and Internet technology. Delegates should come away with an understanding of best practise for conducting commercial activity online."
"Claranet understands the economic significance of attaining 'zero-downtime.' This series of seminars has been devised to explore the issues surrounding downtime, to enable businesses to effectively tackle its causes, and plan for a reliable and secure future."
