Claranet and Kinomi join forces to provide added value e-mail services to business customers.

Published: 25-10-2006

Kinomi's leading, intelligent e-mail information management systems now available to all Claranet business customers. Two customers signed already - SOCITM and Hoegh Capital Partners.

Claranet and Kinomi have signed an agreement through which Claranet will offer Kinomi's unique e-mail management facilities to its customers, combining the complementary skills of two industry leaders to provide greater value to the UK market. The new services will include MailSpaces™ for enhanced group collaboration and MailFlare™ to meet the growing demands of compliance in e-mail management.

The relationship begins with successful implementations of MailFlare and MailSpaces services, hosted by Claranet, for specialist financial advisors, Hoegh Capital Partners and professional association, SOCITM. These hosted services will enable the customers to understand and manage the information stored in their e-mail systems more effectively, give real time access to business intelligence held in their e-mail archives and create secure e-mail stores for compliance purposes.

Humair Naqvi, xx at Claranet, comments, "We have established ourselves as a leading IT Services Provider for the business market because we have constantly augmented our product and service offerings and developed relationships with companies that complement and therefore add value to our own services. The Kinomi products are an excellent fit for us and we expect to uncover many business opportunities in partnership."

Nigel Cannings, managing director of Kinomi, comments, "MailSpaces and MailFlare add real value to a hosted e-mail service and they address some major issues in the business world today. Not least of these is the headache of compliance and e-mail monitoring which are handled with ease using MailFlare. Managing the sheer volume of e-mail that flows through organisations today is a challenge which we welcome and address and we help people to work more effectively and comfortably as part of a group. Collaboration is simple, efficient and productive with MailSpaces. We look forward to working closely with Claranet on a whole host of enterprise projects."

Kinomi MailFlare

Kinomi MailFlare is part of the next generation of enterprise e-mail information management systems and enables organisations to understand and manage the information in their e-mail systems. Giving real-time access to business intelligence, MailFlare enables all the messages from a Microsoft Exchange server to be securely stored for compliance purposes. Compliance managers can search and explore the entire e-mail archive using MailFlare's web interface, while individual users can search and explore past messages that they themselves have sent or received.

Kinomi MailSpaces

Based around groups, MailSpaces can be deployed internally, supporting project teams or communities of practice, or used externally, supporting supplier or customer communities. Users send messages into a group at its own e-mail address. Kinomi Dynamic Discovery's natural language technology then identifies the structured elements that exist within the message, such as names, dates or important topics to be tracked. These elements are indexed and used to make connections to other related information in the system - telling you what to search for before you even know you need to. As new topics of conversation emerge they will be automatically suggested for future tracking. Like an e-mail distribution list, the message can then optionally be sent on to members of the group, enhanced with links to related information in MailSpaces.

Platform and integration

Kinomi products operate out-of-the-box, minimising deployment time, but connect easily to existing enterprise infrastructure. However, the use of open standards and a component architecture allows developers to extend them when they need and to interface with external systems and existing infrastructure.

Built for the Java Enterprise Edition platform, Kinomi supports the Oracle, SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases on Windows Server 2003 and Linux servers.

About Kinomi

MailSpaces.com is its free-to-join consumer service, offering a cut-down version of its enterprise offering to allow individuals to create powerful e-mail communities on the fly.

Traditional Virtual Private Networks don't
deliver for Business.

Published: 17-10-2006

Claranet tackles geographical availability, access options and quality of service limits of VPNs

Claranet's Group Product Manager, Martin Saunders will tell delegates at IP '06 that most virtual private networks are inadequate for contemporary business practice.

He will demonstrate how the virtual private network (VPN) services most commonly offered by ISPs fail businesses. This is due to a combination of three main issues. These are:

1) The limitations of service providers' network footprints
2) Problems attaining quality of service from applications over VPNs
3) Restrictions on types of Internet connection that enable access to the VPN

"Businesses are generally offered a one size fits all solution to their request for a virtual private network solution. The VPNs take the form of either the overlay or the network model," says Mr Saunders.

Any advantages of network VPNs are limited by the reach of the service providers' network. Although the overlay model offers solutions to the problems of the network model, overlay VPNs are notoriously expensive and inefficient to scale, and application quality of service is almost impossible to implement.

In response to customer feedback and in line with Claranet's commitment to provide flexible Internet infrastructure that performs to customers' requirements, the company's technicians have developed a hybrid, next generation VPN model - VPN:NG.

Mr Saunders says, "VPN:NG mixes the benefits of the network model with those of the overlay VPN. It's carrier neutral and as a hybrid, it offers a multitude of access options, including DSL, leased lines and Wifi. It also enables a variety of applications to run over the VPN at the same time including voice, electronic point of sale, peer-to-peer and Citrix or a terminal server type application. VPN:NG is available across Claranet's wide and unified network operating in six European countries and the US, and is backed up by an industry leading service level agreement."

Martin Saunders will be speaking in the Managed Services Theatre of IP '06 at Earl's Court 2 on Wednesday 18th October, 2006 at 14:00. Claranet is exhibiting at stand 409.

Claranet steps up web defence with Prolexic.

Published: 11-10-2006

Claranet, one of Europe's largest Managed Services Provider (MSP), today announced that it is offering its clients the highest level of protection against Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, by partnering with Prolexic Technologies.

The MSP is complementing its current DDoS mitigation offering with Prolexic's Clean Pipe solution, which responds in real time to DDoS attacks, impeding them at multiple layers and enabling legitimate traffic to continue to reach its destination. Other DDoS mitigation solutions - in particular hardware devices - are unable to withstand the rapidly increasing magnitudes of today's attacks.

Claranet has a number of gaming and payment solution providers as customers, which have typically been prime targets for web attacks and therefore require the highest level of security to continue to do business.

Marino Zini, Claranet, Director of Managed Services said: "DDoS is an escalating problem and we have a responsibility to provide our customers with clean, consistent bandwidth. Prolexic provides a cutting edge, dynamic solution with an expert team that responds 24/7, so we are confident we are offering our customers the best possible service."

Gus Cunningham, UK MD, Prolexic said: "With online gaming businesses at particular risk and the increasing ferocity of attacks we have been seeing, it is essential that ISPs look at a dynamic solution that can cope with large and persistent attacks. Claranet's decision to adopt Clean Pipe as its DDoS mitigation offering is a valuable endorsement of Prolexic's ability to keep businesses going throughout any size of attack."

Prolexic will be at Claranet's exhibitor stand at the European i-Gaming Congress, Barcelona, 11-13 October.

About Prolexic

Prolexic Technologies provides cutting edge solutions that protect Internet operations from the debilitating service disruptions caused by DDoS attacks. Prolexic's patent-pending Clean Pipe Virtual Transport® network offers solutions that keeps its clients' internet-facing infrastructures free of DDoS traffic. Without making major adjustments or multimillion-dollar investments in their existing hardware infrastructures, Prolexic's customers rest assured that their network borders are secure and can thus focus on what is really important: their businesses.
