Russian producers of mineral fertilizers supplied 11.5mn t of product to the domestic market in 2020, up by a fifth year on year, according to the Russian Association of Fertilizer Producers (RAFP).
Supply of phosphates and nitrogen-based fertilizers rose by 16.8pc and 19.3pc, respectively, RAFP said, without providing details on specific quantities.
But the largest increase was in potash fertilizers, the supply of which rose by 270pc.
Fertilizer producer Eurochem continues to ramp up production at its two new potash mines in Russia, helping to explain the large increase in year-on-year potash deliveries.
RAFP president Andrey Guryev thanked the support of the Russian agriculture ministry and its efforts to intensify farming for the rise in fertilizer consumption.
Guryev cited a strong performance from Russian agriculture last year. He said many Russian farmers have become more "professional" in the contexts of competitiveness and investment in technology, linking these factors to 20pc and 25pc year-on-year increases in the supply of granular-complex and liquid fertilizers, respectively.
The application of these categories of fertilizers helped compensate for drought conditions in the south of Russia and Siberia, Guryev said.
Guryev also cited fertilizer producers' prioritisation of the domestic market.
Acron, which almost doubled domestic deliveries year on year in 2020, has repeatedly referred to the domestic market as a priority.
Phosagro retained its position as the largest supplier of mineral fertilizers to the domestic market, securing a 23.8pc share in 2020, RAFP said.
Eurochem and Uralchem ??took market shares of 17.9pc and 14.7pc, respectively.
RAFP members produced 52mn t of mineral fertilizers last year, up by 4.9pc on 2019, the association said.
Most fertilizers produced in Russia are exported.
