Loukisha's Story

Hello everyone and glad to see ya back. Hope you had a good week so far, hang in there the weekend is just around the corner. For tonight’s #Ruconest infusion my daughter and son helped me. They are both really funny so there was lots of laughter in comparison to Monday’s infusion. My son is super inquisitive and wants to understand everything. He asks questions like do they name the rabbits? If they have names do all their names start with the letter “R”? Why can’t you mix the #Ruconest in a smoothie since it is made from milk? Why did they use rabbit’s milk instead of cow, goat or camel milk to make the medicine? How big are the rabbits they use? Because if they use small rabbits it would take 20 years to get one cup of milk. Do the rabbits cheer each other to produce the most milk? Do they use male rabbits to give milk? Oh wait only female rabbits give milk! However they are genetically altered rabbits so it is possible for male rabbits to make milk. Do they have a rabbit of the month? Does the rabbit who produces the most milk get a giant share of yellow carrots? I asked why yellow carrots? He explained that yellow carrots are like gold and very sweet. If they feed them orange, red, or purple carrots it will turn the milk an odd color. Needless to say there’s never a dull moment in our lives. The infusion went better today, and laughter is truly a great medicine!
When it comes to living with HAE, how do you approach the subject with your children? Do they know the names of your HAE medications? During infusions or administer other medicines do you give them a task to participate? I would love to hear from you. Please leave your comments or questions in the area below. And remember everyone has a story to tell, don’t be afraid to tell yours.
