Contracting firm BAM International has formed a joint venture with Qatar’s Urbacon Contracting and Trading to bid for the Al Wakrah football stadium in Qatar.
The stadium, which is being built for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, has already started to take shape. The first concrete has been laid above ground.
Speaking to Construction Week, Patrick McKinney, BAM’s area manager for the Middle East, revealed that the Netherlands-headquartered contractor has already submitted its bid for the stadium in a joint venture with Urbacon.
“We have submitted our bid for the Al Wakrah football stadium in Doha, along with the local Urbacon. We expect the tender award by the end of 2015 or early 2016,” explained McKinney.
The 40,000-seat stadium, which will become home to Al Wakrah Sports Club, will be surrounded by approximately 560,000 sqm of legacy precinct with a new sports centre and community hub.
Located 15km south of Doha, the stadium has been designed by AECOM in association with Zaha Hadid Architects.
