Cork-based construction company Bam Group Ireland has secured a €3.2m contract to redevelop Musgrave Park in Cork city for Munster Rugby.
Due to be completed by the end of this year, the project involves the removal of the existing temporary West Stand and the construction of a new stand in its location.
The new stand will be 100 metres long with a capacity of 3,500, increasing the overall match capacity of the stadium to 9,500, and will include changing facilities, a medical room, media room, meeting rooms, commentary and media seating, as well as a large function room.
The stadium will become known as Irish Independent Park when it reopens after a 10 year naming rights agreement with Independent News and Media was announced earlier this year.
Theo Cullinane, Bam Group Ireland chief executive, said: “Our team has considerable specialist expertise in the development of stadia around the world, having recently completed the Fifa standard, Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, one of the most prestigious new facilities in the Middle East.”
Established in Cork in 1958, Bam’s operations span the entire spectrum of construction activity, from high-tech biopharma facilities to world-class sports stadia.
