UPDATE - Wolters declines comment on takeover speculation

AMSTERDAM, Sept 26 (Reuters) - Delta Lloyd Securities pushed Dutch publisher Wolters Kluwer (Amsterdam:WLSNc.AS - News) into the spotlight on Friday by suggesting that Canada's Thomson Corp. (Toronto:TOC.TO - News) may be interested in bidding for it, but Wolters refused to comment.
Delta Lloyd Securities said it had raised Wolters Kluwer to "in-line" from "underperform" after Thomson said on Wednesday it wanted to expand its operations in Europe.
"We believe that chances have increased that Canadian competitor Thomson will make an offering on Wolters Kluwer," Delta Lloyd said.
Thomson, a legal, financial, education and scientific publisher which generates 82 percent of its revenue in North America, has made more than 200 acquisitions over the past five years.
"As far as we are concerned, this is a market rumour by one analyst. We never comment on speculation," Wolters spokeswoman Caroline Wouters said.
Wolters shares were down 1.1 percent at 12.68 euros at 0952 GMT, broadly in line with a 1.56 percent drop by the AEX blue-chip index in Amsterdam.
"We recognise the speculative nature of our recommendation upgrade and therefore upgrade our price target to 15 euros from 10 euros," Delta Lloyd said
