Met de afsplitsing van Business Solutions naar de Nasdaq voor €4,-- wordt de onderwaardering van TomTom zichtbaar en wijzigt tegelijkertijd ook het perspectief van een overname van de kaarten door een partij als Apple, Samsung of Facebook.
Gezien het groot aantal vooraanstaande autofabrikanten dat met TomTom werkt zie ik Apple, Samsung en BlackBerry als serieuzere kandidaten dan Facebook, Yahoo etc..

De huidige waardering laat overigens ook niet zien dat de kostprijs van de kaarten €18,-- is (in 2008 gekocht voor €14 en sindsdien verbeterd en uitgebreid met zo'n 35 nieuwe landen + extra functionaliteit zoals real-time traffic info). De belangen in India en Indonesie zijn ook 100% eigendom van TomTom geworden en verder is er voor China een joint venture toegevoegd met Autonavi waarin TT een belang van 49% heeft.

Die €18,-- is overigens niet veel als je het vergelijkt met de 2 andere wereldspelers die de ruwweg €40 (Nokia) en €60 (Google) uitgaven voor hun kaarten.
Als Apple, Samsung of Facebook eigen kaarten gaat maken, dan zullen ze eenzelfde bedrag als Google (minimaal €60,--) moeten uitgeven en 3-5 jaar keihard moeten werken met alle risico's van dien.

Overigens denk ik dat nu de schulden zijn afgebouwd naar nul, TomTom een gezonde winst maakt en nieuwe producten op de markt brengt, dat de koers ook vanzelf gaat herstellen. Dat zal alleen wat langer duren maar in 2014 staat er autonoom ook snel €10,-- op de koersborden. Eind dit jaar schat ik minimaal €6,-- (beide voorspellingen zonder afsplitsing van Business Solutions en/of andere onderdelen).

TomTom shortpartijen gaan 80 miljoen euro verlies lijden, nu TomTom is getransformeerd naar gezonde financiele positie (geen schuld) en toekomstige groei winstgevendheid.
